Re: USA National Road Chamoionships

Wasn't able to watch the race, but sounds like it was a proper championship race! Unpredicatable, all about being strong and being clever, following the right moves at the right time. Sounds like Phil Gaimon did a really strong race.

Busche is an interesting rider, when I saw him a few years back on the original Radioshack team, destroying the entire field at ATOC with Horner on his wheel, I thought wow this guy is gonna be good. But then he was never able to reach that level again. At the same time, he consistently puts in good rides, and has come off short of a victory a few times on the european circuit, most recently in Dauphiné, where he was in the breakaway, originally dropped on the final climb, then knawed his way back, only to be passed by Froome and Conti in the last km. In the Tour he was not able to help his team in the mountains, but it was only his first participation, so who knows. I'd say with the stars and stripes jersey on his back, as the only American on an American team, he is all but garanteed a spot at the Tour again this year. This season he had a crash right at the beginning of the season in Mallorca, broke his hand IIRC, which took him out quite a while. I didn't think he was at a level to win this yet, so good on him.

He also seems like a pretty nice guy all around, writes a nice blog and his wife just had their first kid, a baby boy named Noah (it is only appropriate that his father should win in this apocalyptic Chattanoogah rain!):

Just look at that little booger

Yeah seeing him destroy the field on Sierra Rd in 2011 was quite something...that was 4 years ago though. Nice to see Horner spend time with him after the race, they should really still be on the same team...Hope the rest of 2015 is good for both of them!
