If the UCI is exposed, the interesting tidbit I would like to see is how the sacrificial lambs who were busted for doping were chosen. Because it always seemed strange how that always shook out.

Hard to miss the implicit threat made in the UCI's letter, referencing Hein's legal win over D ick Pound.

Note to Verbruggen and McQuaid: Tygart and Bock are not D ick Pound. You are up against true pros this time.

Why, the fat baztard who is running the place snuck down to South Africa to race when athletes from his country were banned from doing so. He never has and never will be more than a useless bag of ****.

I'm not awed by the corruption itself. I'm awed by the blatant openness of it.

The UCI should be preparing the ground for Armstrong being exposed. They have a lot of material to work with. Everyone in the sport is singing the same tune about how different the sport it from four years ago. They have their two new clean champions, Wiggins and Hesjedal. Instead they are digging the hole deeper for themselves.

Now is the time to get ahead of the curve. They should acknowledge that mistakes have been made in the past and make a new anti-doping gesture, like testing and proceedings that are independent of the UCI and independent of nations.

I would agree. They need to introduce a new program for whistleblowers and give it a fancy new name. Just to show they're doing something. Then go back to status quo.

I find it pretty hilarious that the USADA repeatedly refers to the affair as "The USPS Doping Conspiracy." It is so perfect.

Each new development is just mindblowing at this point. The UCI's open corruption is staggering also.

I hope that one day there will be a book logging the whole history of this - from 1999, the tests, O'Reilly, the SCA stuff, Anderson.. just every little detail and story up to the end of this investigation gathered together in one place so we can all look back at this.

The claims that cycling is clean now look laughable considering the actions of the hierarchy recently.

The average Joe newbie Sky-fan doesn't know the difference between USADA and the UCI. He just thinks USADA is powering a vendetta and it's a kangaroo court.

You and I can see the corruption but the average punter thinks the UCI taking control is the right thing to do.

This reads to me as UCI trying to influence Judge Sparks' decision by backing up Lance's lawyers arguments. Bring in the external experts type of thing.

Don't know how that will play with his Honour.

I'm not a lawyer, but I can't help but think that Armstrong naming Travis Tygart, an individual, as a co-defendant could come back to bite him.

Suppose Armstrong does, somehow, manage to apply pressure to USADA through the UCI/USAC/IOC route, he still has Tygart to deal with.

What is there to preclude Tygart (short of dropping the case), while he still enjoys discovery, to compel his co-defendant USADA to produce documents, to subpoena witnesses, take depositions, etc. and at the very least get a whole load of undesireable and damaging information out in to the public realm?

Just seems like naming a very smart and very determined lawyer (not to mention an expert in the field) as a defendant is a risky and potentially dangerous proposition.

Fat Pat and Hein's will likely not succeed with this attempt to derail the process but it could delay it. It also serves as a way to introduce chaos into the process. Threats of ignoring any immunity deals and suspending anyone who talks are real. Even if they do not stand up in CAS they would rob a rider of a year and a lot of legal fees.

Hein and Pat know they are in deep do do. They need to toss as many bombs as possible before they go down.

Travis sends a message. We know your secrets Hein and are not afraid to tell them to everyone

"If UCI is truly interested in setting up a special panel to deal with doping, it should not be for one case, rather UCI should ask (the World Anti-Doping Agency) to establish an independent body akin to a Truth And Reconciliation Commission, where the skeletons of doping in cycling can all come out of the closet,

so, RR, Fat Pat and Hein could be threatening to blackmail those who might, have spoke? Therefore JV's twitter comments because he has been read his lack of rights by Fat Pat? To some it could seem to be a case of corruption at its worst.

This could explode.

Will this Truth And Reconciliation Commission include the pictures from Pat's last vacation in Kazakhstan?

This is big, is this the first time an anti-doping body has publicly stated the UCI has no interest in enforcing anti-doping measures? Maybe AFLD did in the past?

JV is pretty safe but Hein and Pat will make it as difficult for the witnesses as possible.

Ultimately this will only serve to enhance their image as corrupt. It is a gamble on their side but it is all they have

WADA was set up with this in mind, to extract the UCI and the Feds from the process.

Wow, the implied UCI corruption is staggering. Fat Pat and Verdruggen are sacks of ****. I am disgusted and I hope this sordid mess is blown wide open.

Dear UCI board.

Please accept this application for president. I am a tough nut not inclined to be corrupted. Though I am slow on the bike, I have a good kick, like riding every road in town and have regulatory experience. I even own four bikes. Seven if you count my kids ones.

If chosen as president, I would hand over anti-doping activities to Race Radio and Python. Although I am Canadian, I have British, German and Finn heritage.

We could also probably make a good amount on the unused Sysmex machine.

Yours truly,
Random Direction

The UCI is not ASKING, it is TELLING. And it is also telling USA Cycling that its directive controls over any directive of the national federations. I sure hope Python is right when he says that USA Cycling is with USADA on this.

How could they not be?

Pat may have really shot himself in the foot this time. Can you imagine the reaction? Last I looked, the US didn't like anyone telling it how to do anything. Kind of fervent about that. USADA represents the US of A. USA Cycling same thing.

If Pat forces USA Cycling, and threatens it in any way, that might just be the ticket for JV's new league. Pat will force the IOC to act, and the IOC can hardly come down on the side of the sport's biggest ever cheat.

We might finally have a real opportunity to get away from this circus.

Bye Bye UCI.

Dave.

This much is true. Witnesses are already being leaned on & threatened with sanction.
