I think anyone can see that Armstrong (at the very least) bought himself some time in regards to that USADA extension. The judge did not dismiss his new filing and is in the consideration stage. Federal judges can (and routinely do) take as much time as they like. That USADA extension deadline means literally nothing to him, and if USADA were to try and enforce it now before his decision comes back, they'd seriously jeopardize their case.

I don't think Armstrong has ever had a plan.

At first he thought leaking the charging documents might work.

Then he tried tweeting which hasn't worked.

Then he filed a Federal suit which has done nothing but delay the enviable.

Then he dragged in the UCI and that's just made him and the UCI look worse.

With all his huffing & puffing he's achieved very little but probably spent a lot.

What to do next?

Off to arbritration we go with some pounding along the way.

Bravo. Now we've gotten it.

The IOC is also against any scandal that threatens to run uphill.

Just like the UCI is. It's easier to make the press think that doping is being managed than it is to actually manage doping.

Those who lack humility always fall the hardest. Kicking and screaming all the way.

Finally! Progress!

Now LA will appeal, right? Anyone want to guess how long it will take for that to play out?

And will USADA extend yet again while it does play out?

Defendants shall have and recover their costs

More expenses for LA to pay

Edit: But some here were saying Sparks took his time ruling, asking the parties to submit more information from Aug 10-17, because he wanted to make sure his ruling was correct and unlikely to be overruled. Why then was there no support with the ruling? Is this the normal way dismissals are presented? Just a couple of sentences, no reasons or justifications for the ruling?

i am getting better then the hog at predicting anything about to happen before tuesday. :p;)

greatly satisfied by the judge's wisdom...MI, as i posited earlier, if armstrong files appeal in the next day or 2, usada is likely to extend the dead line again. but i am far from certain they will.

“We are pleased that the federal court in Austin, Texas has dismissed Lance Armstrong’s lawsuit and upheld the established rules which provide Congressionally-mandated due process for all athletes. The rules in place have protected the rights of athletes for over a decade in every case USADA has adjudicated and we look forward to a timely, public arbitration hearing in this case, should Mr. Armstrong choose, where the evidence can be presented, witness testimony will be given under oath and subject to cross examination, and an independent panel of arbitrators will determine the outcome of the case.”

Calm and collected...LA to pay for USADA costs too, hope we find out how much that was, every little dent in his ill acquired fortune counts!

I'm concerned LA will just go AWOL now and claim the UCI should be in charge...what happens in that case, he gets arrested and thrown in the slammer ? That would work too!

I cannot imagine that USADA would extend again. The case is dismissed, and for good reason. Armstrong has no reasonable chance of getting a stay. USADA gave Armstrong a fair opportunity to ask for the stay, and Armstrong failed (he couldn't even convince the Court it had jurisdiction).

Armstrong now has to play the USAC card, if he can. If he can't get USAC to intervene against USADA (a demand to stop backed up by a lawsuit), then I can't see anything stopping USADA from conducting their hearings. But if USAC did sue USADA, USADA would then bring the USOC into the lawsuit and USA Cycling's Olympic status would be in grave jeopardy. I see USA Cycling as seriously handcuffed.

The UCI is out of the picture until USADA is done.

Looks like the hearing process is safely back on track.
