WADA wont allow it and IOC will have to pull McQuaid back then Armstrong will be forced to reveal UCI corruption which he has been a part of and destroy his own image, unlikley.

Pat will force WADA to demonstrate their ability to play the part of "Alpha Male" when required. He'll at the very least test their will. Why? Because Lance is calling and telling him to.

Lance is probably talking to Pat almost daily now.

1. A lifetime of truth.
2. It is not longer about Pat McQuaid. It is now about UCI. It is more complicated than you suggest, and certainly too much there for Lance to own. The bigger question is how much does Messick own, and in particular with regard to this side of the pond.

Lance tried to buy the TDF with Pat and Hein. A bold move. Even if there's too much in Geneva for Lance to actually control, that doesn't mean he won't make the attempt to control it.

I am not sure Pat will be allowed to test WADA by IOC. I am not sure Pat has the balls to test WADA.

I imagine Pat has gone AWOL and is not reachable by Armstrong.

I think UCI would have made some noise today before close of play in Europe if he was being Armstrong's puppet.

what does this mean? He isnt really going to drag Betsy into it is he?

He was willing to try and pressure Frankie into tossing his marriage away over this stuff. He was willing to toss a wife and a fiancee away for this stuff. And in his eyes, Betsy is a perfect rationalization for his troubles.

Let's make it simple. Lance and Pat are the boys with problems. Ok, what a mess. But they are not the boys that call the shots.

Life just ain't that way. The people who are going to clean this up are on the move. Watch the blindside.

Lance has one strong move left to have some control: confess. But we all know how badly that ends up being.

If Pat were AWOL, Lance would have answered the USADA charges by now.

yeah, but you need to understand the psyche of Lance Armstrong. Way too much insecurity and lack of humility to utter that word.

Remember when The Fonz could never actually say he'd been wr, wrrrr, wrrrrr, wrrrrrrrrong? Think:

1. Funny.
2. Precisely.
3. Good point. (Actually the UCI made their play two days ago.)

Why the blindside so late in the play though? Did they hold any hope for the other attempts to work?

Good question. Is it because WADA folded or because Judge Sparks wasn't the village idiot? Armstrong is a tough poster boy for Messick to replace. But yeah why have they waited so long to call in the marker or to throw the yellow jersey under the bus?

Really don't know. But a really good question.

Grrrr,,Was gonna go bed but got that Christmas feeling..:)

....this statement , sorry to be a pain but what time will it be UK time? ..12.20 am here ATM ..I`m a bit of a night owl any way. ;)

It is a crying shame that all the trolls, haters, and axe grinders have hounded an American hero until he was run to ground. Sure, he may have done a little wrong, but overall he has done too much good for too many. It is a sad statement on society that the givers can be pulled down into the muck of those who never contributed anything.

I agree that they made a statement, but not by McQuaid.

If McQuaid had something to say as UCI pres today was the day. The statement 2 days ago was not by him. So UCI not gonna hold Armstrongs hand on this any longer is the message i read.

Apologies for not having gone into the details. It appeared obvious. McQuaid is not speaking for UCI any longer.

Your point remains a good one. If McQuaid still had something to say as President of UCI he would have had to say it today.

if he is preparing a special media statement, this leans towards the idea he will not go to arbitration. he may state that he has the backing of the UCI, who no longer recognize the USADA process, so the process is now irrelevent.

he could state that it comes down to each person to deciding individuals whether they believe he was the winner or not. that's where we are now. maybe that's where the Armstrong case will always be.

Can it be anything other than some sort of mea culpa? Contrite or belligerent might be the question, maybe both at the same time.

I wonder if he spent time studying Nixon's Checkers speech. Jimmy Swaggert might be a good study as well.

1. Not possible.
2. This would be extremely sad for Armstrong and cycling. The only advantage is that he would not have to wait for the letter to start packing the yellow jerseys and trophies. (Don't forget, this means that Bruyneel, Celaya, and Marti are willing to take the fall for (with) him.)

Highly unlikely. Too complicated. Bruyneel, Celaya, and Marti need to be on board. USADA will set the terms of any confession.

The blindside appears to be the most likely.

What have we been looking at and not seeing?
