UCI likely to appeal ... wise ? ... doe that potty McQuaid have already enough on his plate ? ... or does he also want the Balkan mob pay him a visit ?

The balkan mob? I strongly resent this comment! There is no balkan mob in Slovenia!

For such insolence... *cue Godfather theme, remade by G. Bregovic* ...you can expect a visit... soon. :p xD

Re Ottey: Jamaican, not American - read up before you speak up, tyvm.

Re 'positive': I can take a joke (the quote above yours should be proof enough of that), but I strongly dislike this implication.

I'm not saying it's what you were in fact doing, but it sounds as if you could be questioning all Slovenian sports achievements and it pains me to see Slovenia the **** of (more) rude and disrespectful "humor". I think there's little that would warrant tagging Slovenia as a pit of dopers and cheaters.

i would say found innocent rather than is innocent. I expect the decision to be overturned when the uci appeals it. Good job too.

Seriously, listening to all the explanations given by him and his crew as well as the national anti doping body, I'd say he is innocent - also, I do recall him being ill a lot in the last season.

There's the matter of (1) bleeding in his stomach, the (2) wasp sting to his tongue (as he's an allergic, he would have had to be treated with corticosteroids, I think. And that would've influenced blood values too, I think. But I admit to being a layman so I can't say for sure.), the (3) altitude training that wasn't taken into account and the fact that he was ill often last season. He wanted to pull out of the Vuelta since he (4) rode most of it on antibiotics.

I know doping is a huge issue. I know it needs to be dealt with. But let's give people a chance to clear their names - some may just be innocent. I agree that blood values that do not match the passports should be investigated, but let us leave the accusations for when guilt is proven? I'd say that's how things are done in a fair, democratic society.

Valjavec waging war against windmills

Besnica - Triintridesetletni Slovenian rider Tadej Valjavec eagerly awaits the decision of the International Arbitration for Sport in conjunction with an appeal to the UCI decision Slovenian NAK.

Slovenian National Antidoping Commission (NAK) the end of last July Valjavec exempt from all charges in connection with the biological passport. A decision of the highest Slovenian authorities, the International Cycling Union (UCI) in September last year appealed to the international sports tribunal (CAS) in Lausanne. Valjavec are CAS-u hear 20th January this year and Wednesday 16th February was the deadline for submission of the final speeches of the legal representatives of both parties.

14. February we can on the website Cyclingnews read a statement of the former servant of the International Cycling Union Anne Gripper of the biological passports. The article also mentions Gripperjeva Tadej Valjavec and Francis Pellizottija. From reading you can see how the UCI out incredible pressure on the international sports tribunal. We believe you can, it is not a coincidence that now that the arbitrators began to weigh the evidence and arguments of the parties, former head of the UCI anti-doping department's announced that it would be very disappointed if the CAS will keep in force the decision of the Slovenian national anti-doping commission, and she knows that the evidence against Valjavec solid. UCI knows that this alone may not do, but this statement placed in the mouth by Anne Gripper. At the same time hint at Gripperjeva arbitrators, if not to condemn Valjavec and Pellizottija to do so at least for technical reasons (eg transport neohlajenih samples). After it would not be good if the latter was relieved because the indirect detection method was inadequate. On the basis of the latter is handling the data in biological passports!

UCI wants to "prove" the way nekorekten

The fact is that Gripperjevo in March last year ceased work at the headquarters of the UCI for personal reasons, 5 March 2010 replaced by Francesco Rossi. UCI is third May proposed the introduction of proceedings against Valjavec. How can you know so well Gripperjeva evidence that can be so "confident" in breach Valjavec? Neither has seen the documents Valjavec defense. Thus Valjavčevi as solicitors do their UCI. Valjavec most painful fact of how nekorekten way UCI seeks to "prove" that he used banned products. First, it should be stressed that there was never a positive Valjavec. Initially, the UCI claimed that Valjavec use of blood transfusion. In this context, hiding information that such an assertion can be confirmed or refuted and revealing it only when to do them Valjavčev proposal called for the arbitration panel. When they Valjavec just with this data proved that the story of a transfusion without any basis in the case of the UCI took a second story on the same evidence. This was followed by a story that should be used Valjavec hormone Erythropoietin (EPO) in mikrodozah. And commonly known fact is that most of the year Valjavec survive in the hypoxic chamber in Pokljuka.

The damage is immense

When we Valjavec asked what he thought about statements Gripperjeve, which has burst out of him. The most unacceptable to him throughout the proceedings seemed handling UCI: UCI has to prove it at all hearings planned showing a graphic representation of blood samples (retikulocitov and hemoglobin), for which the UCI itself concedes that it is incorrect, but each time the latter view, only a nonchalant apology. Damage to such doing is enormous, as this graph shows the value of cross-border, visually much more remains in memory as an arbitrator and all described the facts, "he told Sportal on Valjavec.

UCI is now APIC in the results at the races

"The most crazy, what I heard during the proceedings of the UCI is to trying to accuse me on the classification of the races at the time of my stomach problems. Even a year after the discovery of the wounds on my stomach in the latter traces of blood. UCI claimed it is impossible to make last year's Tour of Romandiji to achieve both superior rank! 28th place ranking top for me is not because I was almost every year at this race ranked in the top ten. In short, on such important things people choose to be them all together on just a little dreaming. let alone what to know about it. Because it fell in all parts of the indictment against me, they began to rely on the classification of the competitions. Not only that. Even the setbacks from the winners have become part of the indictment ! I myself went to the race through Romandiji with higher goals and expectations. gap of ten seconds to two kilometers long prologue in which I have placed around 90th place, is too small for the UCI of the fact that I was sick. And so 'superior result of the "I scored even stomach ulcers. For them it is inconceivable for me not because such a test to drive to the shot wound to his leg. I do not know then how is it Petra Majdic at the Olympic Games failed to win a completely broken bronze, "he concluded sarcastically Valjavec.

I don't know enough about the case to decide for myself, but I must admit that it seems his comments in here are very valid:

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/valjavec-reacts-to-anne-grippers-comments

It does make it look like a federation grabbing on to anything it can and trying to make a case stick by basically saying "well, we're convinced you did something, so give it up!". Jeez, a bit like a police state beating an admission out of someone the pulled off the street.

He might have done it for all I know, but his points are definitely more credible than any I've ever heard in any doping case before...

I agree. I know that doping is prevalent throughout the peloton, but after reading through the article, I was left thinking that if this is all the proof that the UCI requires, then I would hate to ever be accused.

Rumor ;)
CAS found Valjavec innocent.

The rumor was wrong. The source was professional cyclist who heard somethning. :p

CAS decision was expected for today, but April 21 is the new date for final decision.

Got some conflicting feelings on this.

My first thought was that this is great because it means that the passport isn't useless after all, and that we now have a couple of dopers less.

But then there's always the doubt in the results, and whether they're enough to be totally sure of doping.

I guess that all the scientists + specialists who looked at his results and came to a decision are obviously experts and have deduced that he doped beyond reasonable doubt.

But is it really beyond reasonable doubt? I mean they probably were doping, but is this going to be a foolproof thing?

etc. etc.
