That is pretty much the situation for any governor of a sport which makes money or wants to make money. The names and characters aren't really an issue, it's hard to escape capture no matter who you are.

I think it's fair to say that Dana White wants a scandal free sport. Only the other day he once again said the UFC and MMA will become the biggest sport in the world. Deluded as that is, he is talking up the promotion of the sport and organisation so he then has a conflict of interests regarding the PED use of it's fighters. We see McQuaid getting it in the neck but Dana White's attitude to doping is no better and in some instances probably worse. How an earth he can say the sport is the most regulated in the world when there isn't a sufficient out of competition system and no testing for EPO and HGH is beyond me. And yet we never see the MMA media call him out on it and if anything he is held up esteem and giving a free pass on all this due to the way he has built up and promoted it over the years.
but they take the stuff in nfl and mlb and nba. atleast there is some correlation to wanting to pound your opponents face in, and be willing to take a steroid.

really. this is blood sport. who gives a, a steroid? come on.

Victor Conte tweeted yesterday that Rosi Sexton is the first MMA fighter to use them which doesn't seem to make sense as I'm sure BJ Penn has used them in the past.

Especially considering they offered to test for free .... The CIR test would wipe out half the roster most MMA fighters are too dumb to circumvent it.

It would hurt business in the short term which I think is what they are worried about, their two biggest PPV generators in history George St. Pierre and Brock Lesnar are like poster boys for androgens.

They could have had a wake up call when Lesnar almost died from diverticulitis but they chose to ignore it and things have actually got worse since then with TUE for testosterone.

when Lesnar was doing Ultimate Fighter and they had close up tight shot/focus on him, he had some wicked frontal bossing on his brow. the forehead was truly stupendous.
diverticulitis spertilikus phwar, who cares, image how much his internal organs are growing muscles and barnacles on them

I don't know about the commentator you mention other than Rogan, the polish experiment Krystof Sozynski used to be a bodybuilder so you know .....

BJ Penn has a weird head but I think he's clean the guy looks like he's never lifted in his life let alone used test and HGH.

George St. Pierre is really the Lance of MMA, for sure on the most sophisticated programme, there are HGH belly pics of him on the Internet where he looks absurd, six pack beer belly.

Interesting the part of the discussion about HGH. Conte points to a review of studies which says although it has benefits for fat burning, recovery and connective tissue it doesn't specifically make you stronger. Rogan makes the obvious point that if you recover better you can train more and get stronger, but Conte doesn't really acknowledge that.

It was certainly one of the more interesting parts of the debate. The HGH discussion is very interesting and it is significant that Conte doesn't consider recovery to be significant whereas I think Rogan is correct in pointing out that it is a PED.

Conte at times seems like something of a snake oil salesman with some of the things he is saying.

I also felt the discussion about cycling down to get the maximum benefit to be interesting. In someways the key time to test for a lot of things would I imagine be 2 weeks before a race or a key TT as that would be when people would be coming off their pre-race doping regimes.

The only times he might come off as a snake oil salesman are when he's talking about his current sleep suppliment thing that he's selling, and even then Rogan is encouraging him to hawk it harder. Generally he seems totally candid, like a Hamilton/Rasmussen/Landis who knows first hand it's bull$hit and is more interested in telling his story than grooming a cash cow. I buy Conte, the HGH thing is a funny one though. Ferrari downplayed it's importance as well IIRC.

HGH works when used with testosterone. the symbiosis gives good results.

otherwise, its indirect. like weightloss, recovery.

Ol' Victor is quite a character. I remember when he was taking Marion Jones to task. She was (and still is) a smiley-faced-massive-liar. His nasally voice is irritating at first, but oddly, it grows on you. Oh, and it's so weird that he was bass player for Tower of Power in a past life.

from musicians taking drugs to increase their performance to athletes taking drugs to increase their performance, I guess it's not so different.

The UFC has a history of denying press credentials to journalists who criticise them and its only got worse since they monopolised the market buying the pride organisation in Japan.

Agreed for stage fright or increased performance, its not just recreational for musicians.

...and authors for obliterating writer's block, and students for cramming/studying, and pilots and doctors to stay awake, and comedians to go with the flow, and law enforcement to put on muscle mass, and obese people to reduce their blood pressure and...yet it seems athletes are supposed to be angels?

"Rock stars against drugs--that's what we want, isn't it? Government-approved rock-n-roll? Woo! We're partying now!" ~Bill Hicks

Two things that struck me about the interview was how good it was to see a longer discussion emerge. While Rogan's lack of knowledge allowed Conte to develop and explain his points, it was also good to see Rogan challenge Conte on the issue.

We need more interviews like this.

Chael Sonnen - everybody's favourite race-baiter, fraudster and doper. With a resume like that he'd have fitted in perfectly in cycling.

I did like that Conte tested all the drugs on himself first.

Unfortunately, the best discussion of HGH use on the forum got shut down due to overvealous po-faced power happy moderating.

Conte was also in 'Pure Food and Drug Act' as well, which was ironic as it was also what he was prosecuted under as well.

I agree he's certainly a charismatic speaker once he gets going its not that hard to imagine him in a past life convincing a pro athlete to dope for the first time.

With all of the herbs and minerals he is hawking you can almost imagine that Barry Bonds might believe that all he was rubbing on his tiny balls (* not libellous proven in court*) was flaxseed oil.

That would be the question I would ask him 'how did you get athlete X to start doping - did they ask you for the drugs or did you suggest it to them'

i have sat next to an Australian Rules footballer, who was obviously on hgh, but when i sat next to him, he just looked lean, and no signture tell. but see the person in media, or pics or video, you have an anamorphic perspective, and it shows the features in totality. the browline, and jaw. forehead and browline obvious tells.

This is a new level of crazy, even for the clinic.

Victor Conte is still making money off mugs, this time through SNAC, his new supplement company - Scientific Nutrition for Advanced Conditioning.

Amir Khan is one of his clients apparently.

He's a foot-in-the-door salesman. These guys never change.
