Cadel Evans said at a press conference that he expects Valverde will be Nibali's main challenger especially in the third week. He did not sound too positive about Richie. He said Richie tends to have a bad day now and then. Many people are saying the same but I think Porte is a better rider now but Nibali is looking very strong.

Thing with Porte is that nobody really knows what he's capable of over three weeks of racing as a leader.
Valverde, well, we know what to expect I guess.

Astana should ride defensively tomorrow. Let a rider from the breakaway win the stage. Will give the other GC guys less motivation for an attack when they know they can't win.

it is not really up to Astana. My suspicion is other team BMC, SKY, and Movie will set fierce temp trying to crack Nibali, I doubt the breakaway will stay away. Just like BMC director said, if we don't put pressure on Nibali, we will never find out whether he will crack or not. And this is the first proper long climb stage, I am sure many teams will try to put pressure on Nibali. So my guess this is a GC stage.

Stop trying to hype it up man, you know very well that no team is gonna do ****. It's all about the podiums now, the only man left in the race who doesn't care about a podium is the one in the yellow jersey.

That's the reason why i preferred guys like nibali to not be 1st, attacks guaranteed.

What you say is the exact same thing people said in the last 2 years in the tour and it was over after 1 week. You should be happy nibali won it but don't expect his opponents will try and challenge him to make it exciting.

I always preferred that there was challenger against the one i'm cheering for, that's also why i didn't get why you were happpy contador crashed out. I guess people are different...

A very important GC day, hopefully Nibble can deliver the final blow!

I'm fine with him winning the overall, but I don't want him to deliver the "final blow" yet. I want to see some real racing from others....see someone ride for more than the podium. Yes, Frankie is very right - Tomorrow will tell a lot as far as who gains what on who.

agree, first long proper climb stage, should be interesting one way or another.

Agree with this and my opinion is that he will ride to defend. But then I saw tomorrow is 100 years since Bartali was born so Nibs might have a different idea.

I agree, as long as no one in the break is a danger, Astana should leave it mostly up to the other teams to chase. Then Nibs should just follow wheels of the other GC guys.

I could also see him gifting the stage if it comes back together.

Put Fuglsang in the break and watch the other teams go nuts.

Nibali should just attack from 10k out on the steep part. The rest will look at each other, cause they don't wanna ruin their top 10 spot. Also, if somebody chases he knows who still has ambitions to take yellow from him

Unfortunately, that is what the race is going to be like now. Hopefully someone steps up, but everyone seems to be content with a top 10 place. Maybe Papy Horner can attack from far out and ride himself back into contention?

wonderful idea!!!but no team will lets him go:eek:

Exactly. So the peloton stays together until Astana is happy with the composition of the break and Fuglsang drops back and lets them go. In reality I think Westra will be policing the break, on both critical days thus far he has. Despite talk of how the best domestiques aren't in Astana, they have ridden a superb race up to now.

If Nibali adds to his lead on the next two MTFs it's all over which just makes you wish that Contador and Froome were still in the race but you can only beat the opposition on the start line. For all of the talk about how Porte will really put decent time into Nibali in the TT, Cadel Evans said he's not too convinced of that. It's also about backing up day after day as team leader and how you recuperate. Nibali is experienced at that now unlike Porte. I am hoping that Nibali lines up in the Tour again next year with Contador, Froome and Quintana. The shame for Contador was that his form was so much better than last year. There were more doubts about Froome. The loss for the race was not seeing the three best climbers going head to head. Hopefully we see a good contest in the mountains anyway.
