"It's encouraging, I feel good," Nibali said. "In the end, I was feeling good, otherwise I wouldn't have had a go. I just wanted to see who would come after me. It wasn't easy to attack with a headwind like that but I tried, just to see if it would kick off with attacks and counter attacks."

So far so good.

Nibali's interview in L'Equipe:

https://www.lequipe.fr/Cyclisme-sur...nairo-quintana-nous-ne-nous-aimons-pas/800155
"(Sur Quintana) Nous sommes rivaux, c'est normal, Nairo est là aussi pour gagner. Nous ne nous aimons pas. Je n'ai pas avec lui les rapports que je peux avoir avec (Fabio) Aru. Ou les mêmes conversations par exemple qu'avec (Alberto) Contador."

He says they do not appreciate each other. Nibali does not have the same type of relationship with him than he has with Aru or Contador...

He said this after today's stage at Processo alla tappa for RAI. No love between the two.

What's the origin of the beef between Nairo and Nibs? Anyone know?
The only thing I recall is Nibali questioning Quintana's whereabouts in the weeks before the 2015 TdF. Quintana just responded with his best stoneface that he was at home on Colombia, training in altitude and he was subject to OOC just like any other rider.
Other than that, I don't think Nibali's words mean they dislike each other. My guess is that Quintana is just too quiet, soft spoken, not fluent in any language other than Spanish and not very extrovert to get in close rapport with many riders in the peloton.

This guy is really stupid... he is wondering why quintana didn't react to his attack (amador reacted but nibali doesn't have a brain to see that...). I'm just hoping to see quintana destroy nibali in blockhaus. Nibali is so overachieved and still continue to be a cocky person

Nibali refused a photo with Quintana.
Nibali has now had a beef with Quintana, Aru and Froome.

He's under no obligation to have a photo with Quintana - or any of his rivals - taken.

All I've read is that he has no relation with Quintana unlike for example Aru with whom he trains quite a few times together, or for example Contador with whom he apparently has a good relation with.
It's not that he says he dislikes Quintana, he just says their is no relation. It's not that special isn't it?

Yeah, pretty much probably.

Quintana is as pretty respectfull of Nibsli, always saying he will be the rider to beat in this race.

There is no beef. It's just the media trying to find stories where there aren't any...
This Italian media are just desperate, they lost the whole Aru vs. Nibali beef narrative that they really wanted to blw out of proportions, so they try to built a new Nibali vs. Quintana feud, it's just a lot of media drama.

Bar the mistake of closing too many attacks by Quintana and blowing up a little in the process I think the signs are good.

Yes, he could have been there with Dumoulin and Pinot, but he was feeling well and riding every attack down for a long time.
The odd thing is that he never went out of the saddle, not even to sprint at the finish line.

Today I saw Nibali as Contador and Quintana as Froome. One attacks, the other tries to close and breaks.

But there were good signs today, way better than last year.

He still lacks the kick, which is not entirely new thing for Nibs in the 1st week of GT's. I think he is in way better form than last year. Many things also suggest he has been training pacing a lot which could be a good sign for TT's.

Knowing this was probably the best suited mtf for Quintana in whole Giro this year, the things could be much worse now.

And of course the whole Giro battle got much simpler today, whether it was due wreckless riding of some, stupid moto police or Vincenzo's voodoo :p

Better than I expected from Nibali today, but my expectations were pretty low for him. Probably he could have stayed with the Dumoulin and Pinot group if he paced himself a bit better. But he has the old champions ego - a bit like Contador - of refusing to let anyone up the road.

We really need him to stay within a minute or two of Quintana going into the final week to still have some decent racing I think.

I read on twitter that he has the flu. Did anyone else see anything?

Meanwhile he stayed in the saddle for the entire climb. Why?????

I saw his interview and he did not mention a flu, they also asked him if he had an "hunger crysis" and he said he ate perfectly through out the stage. He was expecting Quintana to be faster (than him) on this kind of stage.

This doesn't sound like something the media made up:

“It’s true, we don’t like each other”

Because it's better to stay in the saddle instead of climbing like Contador. Not as visually attractive though, but its efficiency is higher.

It was still an excellent performance from Nibali (ignoring other people's performances). Everyone shot up that climb, and after his little crisis he held the gap pretty respectably. Considering how easy the second week is, he shouldn't be more than 1:30 behind Quintana before Stelvio, unless Tuesday goes very poorly. By then hopefully he'll have understood that if he rides his own pace, he will be much closer to Nairo - a lesson for Piancavallo.
