Unless he's really hurt from today's crashes I expect him to be as good as Evans.

well, wiggin and nibali crashed today. So definitely, they will be sore tomorrow. Hesjedal, Evans, Samu emerged safely. They might be the one that will have an advantage tomorrow.

This is how the riders have been going so far:

Vincenzo Nibali - had a couple of crashes today, but paced himself up to the leading group and seems to be fit for fight.
Valerio Agnoli - Been a beast on earlier stages, probably wouldn't risk to much today
Fabio Aru - Let us wait for the high mountians before we draw any conclusions about his form
Dmitriy Gruzdev - a beast on the flat. water carrier numero uno
Tanel Kangert - Just THE team mate so far for Nibali, flats, hills, raining, sunny. It does not matter for this guy (learining from Vino ofc ;))
Fredrik Kessiakoff - sickish
Paolo Tiralongo - haveing problems with a knee or something. Waiting for the last week
Alessandro Vanotti - Astanas answer to Noval. watcing over Nibali on the flat stages.
Andrey Zeits - doing what he is told.

Well they do have an option here, since Nibali started second to last, he can pace himself not to take the pink. But I think that is very unlikely, he will try to take as much time as he could against other big favorites to get the pink. Then on a later stage to gift the pink away to another break if Astana does not have the man power.

Nah.. if he sees that he takes time on wiggins and other GC rival, I don't think he would try to pace himself to get out from pink. Last year hesjedal won by only 16 seconds. Giro is won by seconds. So he won't care if he got pink now or later. And he could just loose it the next day.

"The first time I didn't do anything to myself, but the second time I hurt myself a bit more even if the speed was very low," Nibali said. "I was beside [Danilo] Di Luca and my back wheel went out from under me. The tarmac was very slippery but there are no complications, just a blow to my hip."

Hope he will be good for tomorrow

Nibali took a calculated risk in going on the offensive in such treacherous conditions and on such sinuous roads, particularly given that there are over two weeks of racing in which to deliver a knock-out blow. The ends justified the means, however, with Sky manager Dave Brailsford acknowledging that "ultimately, it worked as he gained time.

"I didn't take any real risks, and I didn't exaggerate," Nibali said of his downhill raid. "But tomorrow is the time trial, and Wiggins is the king of time trials - he put three minutes into me there at the Tour last year.

"I certainly didn't want to risk too much, and the roads were so slippery that it was obscene really. But I gained something, so it worked out well. I wanted to try and do something. Some of it went well and some of it went badly, but all told I think the glass is half full rather than half empty."

Nibali acknowledged that without the crashes, his gains over Wiggins could have been yet greater. "I'm not very happy about the crashes but so be it," he said. "I hadn't fallen all year, and then I fell twice today but that happens."

The pictures were interrupted too much to tell what happened to Nibali on the descent, so thanks for posting the info, maxmartin.

Thankfully he was able to get back on the bike quickly and lets hope he can do a good TT tomorrow!

Yep win one more MTF stage, wrap up the whole Giro.

Astana do have a weak team right now, full of sick guys. It is possible they can gift a stage away to a break

Shark in Pink :) :)

What will Astana do? Right now they don't look capable of defending that jersey for 2 more weeks.

Geez I hope Lo Squalo remains Strong :)

I hope all the other Astana guys take easy today and recover well, especially Tiralongo and Kessiakof , Nibali needs them badly to defend PINK

Well Gruzdev seemed to take it really easy today. Kangert seems to be in utter beast-mode and he's quite high up in GC so Astana could use him strategically. Kessiakoff I think is slowing getting better, and Vanotti and Agnoli will always work themselves into the ground for nibali. Tiralongo coming right is very important though

Well Kangert sure didn't take it easy and he's the one that's still been around late. Need the rest of them to get well.

Guess those 2 falls didn't effect Nibs to badly :)

Astana should let a Vini Fantini rider take pink tomorrow.

No objection here, but don't want them catching fire while playing with fire. They might defend PINK SKY or Liquigas style. Who knows. we will find out tomorrow.

Astana is not that bad right now.
Kessi did ride ok being unhealthy and he can only improve. Aru will be a beast in the high mountains. Kangert is a beast. Vanotti and Agnoli bodyguards as usual. Only real concern is Tira's knee, he's really needed.

Guess you worried too much about Nibali yesterday.:D
According to Evans, wind direction turned quite a bit, otherwise he could get better time. I guess same applies to Nibali.

Wind help Wiggins, not sure about the win, but gap can definitely be smaller if W starts roughly the same time with them. As you can see lots of good time come from early starters

oh yeah.. tomorrow. downhill to finish again.. Maybe hesjedal will go bezerk now!!

I think they will take it easy after two very hard days, unless MS and Hesjedal had something planned. Also excited to see how Astana defend PINK
