just training (at his usual training "levels" to preserve the form for Vuelta)

heheh.

As I was typing the question, and then a later post about leaving stuff in the tank for later in the year, it did occur to me that perhaps he was....

Personally (yeah yeah) I'd be doing the bare minimum to win so I had more in the tank post-tour to prepare for worlds, etc.

Needlessly pushing yourself just doesn't make sense to me.

I get what you're saying re: proving himself, but find that interesting. I would have thought only a mentally weak rider would be influenced in his racing style by riders that are not even there.

So you would rather win Liege like Valverde/Gerrans than like Hinault?

Perhaps it's just a very human trait: Crushing your sunday afternoon friends at that hill.

He's an athlete and many of them have the need to show who's the best. Alpha male.

And yeah, being more frugal is a better idea in the long run.

Yes, and mentally weak he isn't.

I think if he really wanted to make a point he'd have a proper go at dropping a 37 year old.

I would argue his racing style consists in attacking when he feels good, regardless of the opposition.

I prefer to be in the break away. I am quite clearly talking about the Tour de France - a 21 stage race, where he is constantly dropping everyone up the MTF - for what?

Nothing to do with one day races whatsoever.

Nibali Alien mode on Hautacam? Come on Tour, give me a hilarious end!:p

He's been watching tapes of Froomedog apparently...that little 2000 RPM spin attack was familiar looking...well, except for the fact that he had a view of the road ahead instead of his stem.

Get dropped like a stone all season then become SuperNabli right when the Tour starts.

Diet, cooling down, ice leg things, other stuff...it's the new clean cycling that does this.

I have to say that I am really depressed that Froomedog and Contadope are out. This Tour would have been epic...in a really depressingly obvious kind of way.

Right. :D one question though. Why do they always have to as it were sign their ridiculous masterpieces? Overtaking nieve was like warp speed.

Just coast to victory, make a face, less questions asked.

The perfect crime aint prrfect if no one knows?

From what I've heard so far the time up Hautacam wasn't that fast. But he sure is in another division than the rest of the pack.

The only guy faster than him since 1996 was Armstrong
