Because he wasn't super enough to distance them all enough to hold on on the descent. He followed every move easily.

I think he was on the limit towards the top of the last climb.

My guess is in about 5 or so years, he'll be busted for doping too.(Further proof of this is that 2 of his fellow teammates got busted for doping).

Nibali was one of the most "normal" or "human" CG champion of the last decade honestly. He had a great peak between '13 - '16 but never gave the impression to be a mutant, despite his Astana years. He was a Shark but not fishy.....
