In this clip Vino talks to Astana's tour team through eurosport:

http://vodp.eurosport.com/nogeo/2011/07/18/ITV_vinokourov_18063607-189231-700-512-288.mp4

Can anyone explain what he says?

Vino: Roman, on the rest day training ride, you will attack. Remy. You too.

Paolo on the stage into Gap, you will attack.

(lists who will attack on every stage)

Andrey, in the time trial you will attack

Whole team. on stage into Paris, when everyone is drinking Champaign, you will attack

DI gregorio: (shaking head) but Vino, you cant do this to us. I cant attack on Champs Elysee, i am not a sprinter.

Vino: Thats weakness. For that, on Galibier, you will attack!!

Of course - I should have guessed this :D

But seriously, why is he crying? I understand "bonjour", after that I am lost.

Thanks for the translation. HS French doesn't cut it in that situation.

Definitely choked me up, even not understanding it. For a man like him to cry like that his anguish must be incredible. My heart is broken for him.

All right, Eurosport translated part of what Vino said.

He says (stopping to cry every few seconds) that he must follow his destiny. He syas that this is very emotional for him. He wanted to finish on the podium of the Tour (saying he had hoped to win team classification) but unfortunately he has to end it here. He then says that on the one hand he could have continued another year, but he doesnt know what he would want to achieve in that year, so he must follow his destiny.

it really is very moving :(

Agreed. What a poignant moment...

Hopefully Cyclingnews.com will do a retrospective on Vino's career, pending finding the "right" writer... I'd do it myself but am too biased to write anything other than a fawning hero-worship piece.

Is that you? You should have asked Vino to hold the baby to transfer his superpowers. ;)
