I would like to see him go out triumphantly with his gold medal, a national hero. its best he be remembered for that, instead of the other stuff.

They should make a movie about Vino.

Make it 7 hour epic covering everything: from soviet training camp to collapse and first years in France and Casino, Kivilev's career (4th in TDF) and death and Vino's dedication to win damned race that took his friend's life, T-Mobile years: Voigt, Ulle, Kloden, Zabel, and all t-mobile Sydney win. Botero. Tours, LBLs, Amstels, Astana, traumas and overcoming...

Scorcese, get on it! :D

Shameless quote from the front page:

Landis leads Vinokourov tributes

Former professional rider Floyd Landis was quick to make light of Vinokourov's Olympic win. While the Daily Mail called the race winner a 'nobody' and CBS ran with the headline "Ex-doper Vinokourov wins Olympic road race", Landis contacted Cyclingnews with the following:

"If Vino says 'it's a victory for clean cycling" he'd be my hero. Alternatively if he said 'f*** every single mother******* one of you,' that would work too."

Lol what... a nobody?

Look, it was to be expected that people would downplay his victory because of Vino's doping history. But seriously? A nobody? Vino is a lot of things, but anybody who has won the Vuelta, two LBL's and 4 TDF stages cannot in any way be called a nobody.

Vino is a great cyclist. Too bad, though, he grew up in his generation. How much better it would have been for one like him to fight against Hinault, Lemond, Roche. Not for doping, but for cycling culture.

Agreed. One era or another, it's riders with character (like Vino) that prevent this sport from degenerating into the doped up and superdull processions a la UK&USPostal.

Though if you listen to Bradly, we should get used to superdull processions.

According to him great performances are no longer possible, a thing of the past, part of a certian way of cycling.
