Dekker_Tifosi said:Great story from Reinier Honig about Hel vh Mergelland. When he was riding at Unibet with Baden Cooke they were both selected for that race. Cooke asked Honig what kind of race it is. Honig replied: "Like the Amstel Gold Race but without the flat parts".
Few days later Cooke reported to the team he had a knee problem and wouldn't start![]()

I know the race ended in a small group sprint (max 20/30 guys) a couple of times but Cooke would have had no chance. It has more hills in 200km than the amstel gold race in 255kmroundabout said:Way to scare off a rider who could actually win that race

Funny that Cooke would go on to become a fearsome climbing domestique.Dekker_Tifosi said:I know the race ended in a small group sprint (max 20/30 guys) a couple of times but Cooke would have had no chance. It has more hills in 200km than the amstel gold race in 255km
Or actually in 180km, because the last 20km are flat (reason why groups come back and it can end in a sprint).
If there was a team committed to riding hard there would be small groups of 3/4 people all over the place
I know, I was making fun of Cooke. And above all, of Saxo, I suppose.Dekker_Tifosi said:i know but in his unibet time he was definately not good enough
