Great entertainment from Wiggins but what did the move actually achieve apart from gifting Valverde 4 seconds and dropping Uran?

Gesink just isn't a very smart rider. The times he has pulled Valverde to a stage win or a good result are beyond counting. And of course Valverde had teammates there.

Both Valverde and J-Rod probably think they can drop everybody on the MTF's.
Alas I do like Gesink's way of racing. Hopefully he can get a result.

gesink makes the cut on a descent? now i have seen everything :p

I told you guys before since 2/3 years he isn't a bad descender anymore. When he misses a split it's either due to bad form uphill (too far back at start descent) or a crash of someone else.

He usually returns downhill when being dropped uphill...
That said, suprising he is here, after PN he still was ill with a virus for a while...

I suppose putting 26 sec into Anton, Pinot, Jrod, Quintana et al on a basically easy stage for the gc guys is far from negligeable....

Took time on a bunch of GC contenders. Very smart move. Easier to control the peloton moving forward. Uran is just a support rider here. Expendable.

Uran was actually a designated leader here from what I heard, plus it'd be logical with no ITT's.

Dropping Uran was probably a good thing. Means he aint moving from his spot in the train now. May even move up as Cataldo/DLG are in great form.

I doubt it considering he was nowhere towards the front at any time.

This thread is hilarious. Wiggins attacks and breaks the peleton apart leading to to him coming home in a group 30 seconds ahead of the main bunch.

People criticize him.

Not really as Valverde, Scarponi , Purito (and Gesink) finished with his group, the biggest favorites to win the GC.

But good move nonetheless, that I agree with

If it results in time loss of his designated leader, I can understand the criticism.

Although clearly Wiggins has some good form, and in good form he's a better climber than Uran.

Uran is one of the best descenders on the Sky squad. If he was their leader he would have been up there.

This is a warm up race for the Giro and Wiggins should use it to test out his opponents in every way he wants to. Small psychological victory over Ryder today.

All I see here is Sky fanboys complaining even though there's no one criticizing Sky here. Is that the new thing on this forum? Has been happening a lot in race threads lately.

This is Ryder's first race day of the year. I doubt he's here to win.

High trees catch lots of wind, as we say in Holland.

I've never thought of Ryder as a top contender for week-long stage races. I don't think I can remember him ever getting on the podium of one.

Meh, ofcourse there is some laughter about him dropping the designated leader.
It's mostly just some friendly banter imo. It was actually a nice move by Wiggo!

Surprising for sure!

I certainly never criticised Wiggins, I thought it was a fantastic move. All I did was point out that because of the move he is 4 seconds worse off with one of his two rivals for the GC than he would have been otherwise. The Sky train will probably drop everyone in the mountains anyway and we'll be left with four Sky riders pulling nobody else along.
