I also wouldn't completely rule out VPP as a GC contender. He looked good to me towards the end of Paris-Nice, and this pretty mountainous route should normally suit him, unless we get snow and/or echelons again.

Still, I kinda believe in him on those punchy stages after Emilia last year and Milano Torino last week. He's getting more well rounded imo.

When it comes to riders "targeting" a result, my rule of thumb for "Targeting" is:
Obscure riders riding for GC = Targeting top 10-15
Top 10 = Really targeting top 5,
Top 5 = Really targeting podium,
podium = Really targeting the win

Nothing changes IMO.
I mean, Decathlon won't be the one to set the pace so it will be up to one of them, or both, to stay as close as possible to the leaders.
I don't think they will ask Riccitello to wait if Gall is dropped early.
