He did altitude in the last years before O Gran camino. This year he was in Mallorca before Volta ao Algarve.

The opposition in O Gran Camino last year wasn't worse than the opposition he had today.
Lenny Martinez and Egan Bernal were 2 and 3 in Gran Camino last year. Surely thats worse opposition than Almeida today.

But yeah Jonas is obviously not on the same level as in february last year.

Couple of weeks back, some thought it was already banned but apparently a grey area was being exploited so they banned it explicitly.
But this grey area wasn't being exploited by Visma, assuming they're the "they" you're referring to. And even if it was, this doesn't account for last year, which wasn't great either.

They've just been surpassed by UAE in every manner possible. That happens. It's what Visma did to Ineos. They were performing way above their budget, and now they quite obviously are not.

I would for one reason. Vingegaard was so much better than others in previous years (in any type of hilly or mountain stage). He lost to 3 UAE, specially Almeida who is terrible in this type of climb. I think it is his worst performance since he is a GT winner.

He wasn't on altitude this time. Probably just different approach to building up for his real goals in 2025.

You also have to take into account how the stage went, of course. He didn't lose to those three UAE guys on merit, probably could have beaten at least two of them if it was about who was strongest on the day.

It's more worrying that he wasn't really able to open any sort of gap when attacking, he should be able to. Maybe not on Roglic, but certainly on the rest.

That boy has 0 dynamite in his legs

Unusually surprising result and relative strengths here. UAE look very good for GC, they could even sweep the podium?
Don’t really know much about Morgado’s TT skills but Roglic and Vingegaard should beat him. Almeida is in prime position for the GC victory. Christen may hold on to a podium. He has a good TT but all depends on how he looks on the Malhao part of the TT.

Would not read too much in one stage. Bigger goals ahead. Surprised in podium today anyway.

Joke aside, that's true. A race in February is too early to judge, but with him actively training since November and the level him and Pogacar keep, I expected him to be better and not to be dropped by Almeida at least.

Christen was really strong. I like him.

Morgado is good in TTs. Of course he is young and probably not good enough to beat Jonas or Primoz
