You know thinking about it Uijtdebroeks has probably looked the best Visma climber this year so far.

Simon Yates yet to race, he's probably on the phone right now to Matt White asking for his old job back.

Why is Bardet retiring :(
He talked about it on several occasions. His numbers are still the same, but whereas a few years ago they allowed him to be on the podium in the Tour de France, today, with the rising level of the peloton (see another part of the forum for details), they're no longer good enough and his objectives are slipping away. When listening to him, he seems to feel out of place with today's cycling.
I suppose he also wants to enjoy a personal life.

I'll miss him. In every race he takes part in, I always hope for a big surprise, or just a beautiful moment of cycling, or a beautiful human moment, which often happens.
He said he wants to stay in the cycling world after retiring as a rider. IMO that's a good thing for cycling.

I've lost Eurosport 2 on my TV and so far no VPN so I have but watched the finish on Youtube. Of course the day I missed Almeida has to do something spectacular. And tomorrow I am busy.

This noob needs ubuntu compatible vpn yesterday.

Unfortunately for you noob I'm afraid the cameras also missed it, pretty sure the commentators at one point also claimed Almeida had been dropped.

Joao is too kind anyway, he threw away a Suisse stage last year for no reason when Yates won the GC anyway, if UAE have all been told they can race for themselves he should've sprinted for it :(

Almeida continues to be an enigma to me; at one hand he's absolutely triggered by his teammates in such a way that nothing gets him going more than a teammate up the road. But when he's at the finish line something happens. I just watched the finish again and it looks like they're trying to finish hand in hand but can't reach each other. So the same as in Suisse last year.

Finish time stamped here.

Good stage on where Rogla and Jonas rather cancelled each other out then go for the stage win still now everything is rather nicely set for an ITT. Should be a blast. My pick is Rogla as the ITT is tailor made for him.

Man, thank you for this! I always liked him because he looked like such a cool dude, always willing to have a go at it.
It might be just my bias but I always had the impression that he wanted to race and that slowly, anonymously getting dropped was not his style of racing.

What about all the other times Vinge isn't able to follow the Pogs bombs? Come on dont be disingenious

You said he wasn't explosive, I found an example where he showed great explosivity. He can't have done that because of luck, ergo he is explosive.

Of course not as much as Pog but he is definitely not just a diesel grinder...

If he is explosive like you claim, why isn't he able to stick to Pogacars wheel everytime instead of only once? An exception doesnt make the rule. Funny how you also ruled out luck on a one time occurence 🤡

Wonderful victory by Christen yesterday. So persistent, he really wanted that victory. It's not often you see someone attack as many times as he did.

If I lost a neuron any time people were talking about bike switches in TTs for no reason or mixing or forgetting the importance of freshness in the context of an acceleration you could put me 6 feet under.

Bonus points for ignoring wind and a pretty average gradient.

Wtf? If you can produce the watts, you can produce the watts. How can you be lucky doing that? It's not like Niklas Märkl or Julius van den Berg sometimes at random feature at the business end on an MTF or suddenly win a bunch sprint out of nowhere.

There are plenty of other examples where Pog couldn't shed him like in the Basque opening of the '23 Tour, where everyone else was immediately dropped.

Also, maybe stop it with the clown emoji?

Aerobic fitness matters a lot during accelerations on even punchy climbs.

Yes, how is that contrary to what I say?

Aerobic fitness also should have mattered yesterday, so I don't really follow.
I am agreeing with you. But it's the single reason why this whole explosivity debate is a clown show

Unless we're gonna call Plateau de Beille a glorified uphill sprint, then I'm fully on board with it.
