Turns out Plapp, in the good old Sky way, pushed some insane Watts for 24 mins. dropping everybody bar Carapaz and Higuita then dropping dead. It worked big time for the team.

Thanks!
I don't think he did anything selfish. And Almeida claims he told him to go on the descent but he couldn't go with him because he was slipping out.Ayuso seems like a complete selfish douchebag. I love it Well, perhaps it sounds a bit harsh but we need more of those rebellious riders who want results for themselves no matter what and at the cost of their teammates succes!
Ammattipyöräily doesn't account for weather conditions and there was a headwind so need to put that up by a lot. People in the group that lost ~45s on that climb did a little over 6.1 w/kg. Naichaca uses the other riders data to calculate w/kg with the conditions taken into account and estimated that a rider of 60KG would have required 6.61 w/kg to do the speed Plapp did on the climb, and 6.42 w/kg for a 69KG rider. Plapp said he was 68KG last summer just before the Olympics, he's probably a KG or two down since then so more like 6.5 w/kg.6.2 w/kg for 24 minutes est. for Plapp on the climb, similar to Yates/Pogacar on Jebel Hafeet for reference, just a shade under.
Should note that J/H was at the end of the stage, although weather conditions more favourable.
Take a guess what's happening right now. Front group down to 30 riders after the first uncategorised climb. Quintana the most notable rider missing. Poels also absent due to an untimely mechanical.Could see fireworks before the circuit tomorrow already.
Its very fresh and very low altitude. Under 1000m I dont think its that extremeAmmattipyöräily doesn't account for weather conditions and there was a headwind so need to put that up by a lot. From my own calculations from all the power numbers of the guys in g2, 6.6 w/kg seems more likely if those riders are near their strava weights. Obviously the climb was 30KM into the stage so need to note that there is far less kj spent than you'd see from other times we've seen elite climbers go all out this year when comparing the numbers, but still 6.6 w/kg for 24 minutes is absolutely astronomical and is comparable to the 6.7 w/kg Bernal did for 25 minutes back in the 2018 Romandie MTF TT.
(edit)
Bit of extra info, Tobias Halland Johannessen who was one of the last two standing who didn't make the group (shown in the video linked below), did 6.5 w/kg for the first 13 minutes of the climb (linked below the power and the segment comparison) and 7.1 w/kg for the last 30s before he blew up, doing 5.7 w/kg for the final 12 minutes of the climb. Linked some pictures as well as there was no video to show how large the group was when Plapp was initially pacing. Absolutely insane effort. From a raw numbers point of view, likely the only effort that will come close this year is if there is another MTF TT, unless there's another situation where a world class climber just goes all in with very little fatigue prior. Not sure if Plapp came into the race with a bit of illness like a lot of the peloton, but a shame he wasn't able to show himself off in the MTF's where he would have actually been seen on the TV

break not really getting away. Still only a bit more than a minute advantage
But who is chasing? Bora riders will most likely be burned and Higuita isolated on the very first laps, with maybe only Hindley there. Unless Ineos helps out.

I have no idea why everyone keeps saying that, but Palzer is in good shape and Zwiehof is normally a really good climber.
Laas is there also and indeed uno-X helping out.If they have to chase to keep the break in control, they probably wont have much left for the laps though. Unless they have a great day and are very strong.
Seems like Uno-X is helping out...
