At this point, if I was a team manager I wouldn't touch Hayter with a ten-foot pole even if I was looking to sign a pure domestique.
The new Moreno Moser finished 153rd today, behind token Chinese guy Haoyu Su among others, on a stage that was perfect for a sprinter-puncheur like him. Giving him a two-year contract is not one of the savvier decisions Soudal have made, to say the least.

in the UCI rules, it's the same as before: "This article shall not apply where the finish is at the top of a hill-climb." No other exception listed.
You're right: sorry. Not sure whence I invented that memory.
It has changed, but the only changes are that there must be a timing strip at 3km to identify who is in what group, that it can be extended with UCI permission to 5km, and that the incident must be independent of the riders control and, if a fall, must include several riders (that is the Roglic situation correction).

Weirdly, it applies therefore even if there is an HC mountain line a few hundred metres before a flatter finish.
It also specifies that to avail of the rule a rider mist have the "will of remaining with the riders in whose company he was riding at the moment of the incident": a clause I am happy to see ignored as it would prevent riders trying to assist those in trouble.

Only the top 20 scorers count?
Yeah but the other 10 help the 20 that do is what I meant, bad turn of phrase from me, and even if Syritsa who he seems have been relegated to the dev team to make room wasn't top 20 he's still pretty strong and could leadout Kanter/Bol. I think this guy was requested by the sponsors, but they could've at least signed Xianjing Lyu if they wanted a Chinese star, he's actually good.

Times have been corrected now, group with O'Connor at +15".
Carapaz got +0 even, due to a 3k incident - or in this case, 4k apparently

"The riders involved in an incident mechanic in the last four kilometres of the stage, have been classified with the time of the rider in whose company they were riding at the moment of the incident

- 5 10087898754 TORRES ARIAS Pablo UAE TEAM EMIRATES
- 91 10009165672 CARAPAZ Richard EF EDUCATION - EASYPOST"

I rewatched the final 3 km two times after I noticed that, but it was impossible to see anything other than Carapaz and the group he was in already with a little gap before the last 800 m, but I assume he had a mechanical before that since the rest of them weren't given the same time.

Hayter's not a domestique, and he's not a rider for conditions like today. He'll likely pick up 2 or 3 wins this year though, like he usually does. What's his salary, btw? I assume you must know, else you wouldn't comment on the savviness of the decision to sign him.

Minimum wage is more than 2025 Hayter is worth.

Aside from that, you can't blame the conditions when he was also awful in Oman. Moreover, 2-3 wins a season like he usually does is not an accurate descriptor of Hayter at all. He got 9 wins in 2021 and 6 wins in 2022, then 0 non-NC wins in the past 23 months.
