You're right: sorry. Not sure whence I invented that memory.
It has changed, but the only changes are that there must be a timing strip at 3km to identify who is in what group, that it can be extended with UCI permission to 5km, and that the incident must be independent of the riders control and, if a fall, must include several riders (that is the Roglic situation correction).

Weirdly, it applies therefore even if there is an HC mountain line a few hundred metres before a flatter finish.
It also specifies that to avail of the rule a rider mist have the "will of remaining with the riders in whose company he was riding at the moment of the incident": a clause I am happy to see ignored as it would prevent riders trying to assist those in trouble.
Imagine faking, having, sorry, a mechanical in the Zoncolan 3 kilometers from the finish!!! :p

He's 1 month and 9 days older than Evenepoel and Tarling when they took their first WT win.

First teenager was Ciolek in Tour of Germany.

Ah, okay, I just remembered how he was the youngest rider to podium a WT race in Down Under but that was of course more than a month and nine days ago.

Just watched . Holy moly. Brennan looked like Mvdp in Amstel 2019.

Del Grosso is going to be replaying that last 6km over and over in his mind tonight.
I think he's going to feel in his body tonight too. Looked like he might have cramped up or simply went into Millennium Falcon stall mode.

Van der Poel.

Incredible win for Brennan, its seems Visma hit the jackpot once again. Good to see Del Grosso showing himself on the road too.
I thought you were talking about GC, not the group overall.

If he hadn't been impeded by motos in one of the bends and bothered to sit a little more aero on the flat, he might have won.
I think the motos made it up to him with some decent pulls for the next few straightaways

The motos impeded him, but then helped him because he was in their slipstream. Del Grosso always sits slightly upright, always seems like he could go a bit faster if he really wanted to. That's just his style.

I've also read commentary from people saying he shouldn't have looked back so much. You know who looked back even more? That's right, Matty Brennan, the guy who won.

It was almost absurd how much better he was than everyone on the descent as he was opening up gaps even while looking back and trying to wait for his teammates
People who watch CX races knows he’s a special rider, really technically gifted. And he’s young so a bit reckless, doesn’t think and knows his skills. He was going up some steep parts in CX as a junior where not even pro riders could do it.
In the rain and descending you won’t see many faster than him.

He was just below the top non mvdp crossers last season and got better toward the end. His is a very, very good technician as you note.

Since he won the Giro, this man has spent more time battling injuries, fitness issues and illnesses than Kelderman and Bettiol combined. You have to feel bad for him at this point.
He looked pretty damn good in 2023 until he crashed out in the Giro. Been struggling ever since with different things, as you say.
