Yes but the question is if the wind will have picked up enough by then. It will definitely be mayhem at some point

Honestly basically already from 100km from the finish. I just can't see how this won't be absolute carnage. Ineos will try to set something up definitely, they need to and they have the team for it.
At 80 km from the finish, the wind is stronger earlier. I have little doubt that it will split with such gusts.

Yeah but that's meteoblue, not every model seems to say the same. But they all say there will be enough wind now tho. Officially there's code yellow from 6PM onwards, but it will be going hard from at least 2PM, so yes it will split early guaranteed basically.

Sure, but I don't even know if Search said that Brennan was gonna win. He asked a question if it was possible. No it wasn't. I would say peak Matthews could and that's what people are comparing Brennan too.
After what he did in stage 1 someone could tell me that Brennen was gonna drop Pocagar on alpes dhuez and I wouldn't immediately dismiss the take

Excellent . . . Nairo will get a chance to show off his echelon riding skills!

Roglic a little slower nowadays. Van Eetvelt would have beat him in last year's early Vuelta stage but celebrated early. Lecerf lost 30 seconds today but is still 9th.

In the interview, Eetvelt was angry at himself cause he got caught too far back when the attack came. Then he said "that's racing". He was feeling good despite having slept in high altitude.

Bernal lost more than 30" :(

He did crack a little but he read the Ganna playbook and kept the damage to a minimum. I am a fan and seeing his immediate comeback after...another injury is inspiring!! Seeing the way the guy fights has me routing for him!!
After having to recover after the Jean gravel race and crash i didn't think he would be as good as he has in this race. So I am encouraged, I still hope he can get close to his best ever again. Would love to see Bernal win some stages and races this year.

Didn’t realize he was at Teide camp for 4 straight weeks prior to start. Wives and kids must rue the way winter training camps have grown—that used to be the time of year they saw more of their partner/dad.
3 weeks at Teide and now 1 week in Catalunya = 4 weeks from family.

Don't know about Roglic, but some guys take their family with them to Teide nowadays. Merlier and Theuns went there all together with partner and kids last year, for example.

It‘s so tight between Rog and Ayuso, stage rankings could decide the overall.

So both must go full gas today and at the weekend.

Hard racing to come, I hope.

Roglič's wife injured her leg a few weeks ago and she can't run around with two kids yet. But they usually join him in Tignes every year.

Safety discussions going on. Riders are scared for the wind gust.

I'm pretty scared for tomorrow, average wind will be less strong inland, but wind gusts up to 100km/u will be problematic up a mountain.

And it's not just the wind. The temperature on Pradell, according to the forecast I checked, is supposed to be close to 0 with a possibility of light snow.
At this rate route changes are very likely imho

It would help if they didn't use deep rims. Iirc, that mattered for who crashed from gusts during Gent-Wevelgem 2015.

I agree, there should be a rule to prohibit riders from using them when it's windy.
But it's obvious that a lot of riders do take the risk and have them and in a peloton it is obviously dangerous, for everyone, even for the riders who don't take the risks.

If I'm correct some riders wanted the first part of the stage neutralized cause there would be less wind gusts towards the coast

Not surprising. Tenerife is a great place for this. Incredible diversity of landscapes: great for hiking but also for those less active people. One can even hike to Teide straight from the coast covering huge elevation gain and variety of landscapes. I did it this year (in one day!). My route is seen in this picture (city -> far ridge -> Teide slope).

Crash in the first crosswind section.

EDIT: They deleted that update. As they are turning to a tailwind, the peloton eases off.
