He was the most aggressive GC rider in the race. And he won it the way he rode it, despite clearly suffering from the mid-race crash.

There was not a single stage where he didn't attack but should have.
No he wasn't. He wasn't attacking a single time. Just was doing his normal uphill sprints.
There is also Dauphiné 2024. There are more examples than just Giro 2023.

You think he should have attacked there? It was still only a couple of days after his crash when he was at his weakest in the race.

Bergamo Alto rarely see splits among the best riders, so he would have needed to attack Roncola.

If he could attack on the Fossombrone stage, he could attack at Bergamo Alta (crash notwithstanding). But you're right, he did have his crash and was likely more affected by it than was ever communicated to us.

He could also have attacked the stage 1 TT a bit harder than he did ;)

Great that the organizers of Catalunya could plan a course like that for the final stage. It was hard enough to force a result.

Gotta give it to Roglic, that was an impressive win. He's been around a while now with plenty of detractors and this former ski jumper can still do the near impossible. Just too strong even after crashing.

I think Pogacar would be the only rider in the peloton who could match that attack. Its also another reminder why Juan Ayuso needs to rethink how he approaches grand tours. Needs to be less selfish and support Pogacar 100% else go ride on another team where he can be the leader.

Roglic showing himself he should attack more often.
I agree and disagree. When he isn’t out of form (Dauphine 2024, etc) or recovering from a crash (Giro 2023), he is fairly aggressive. He was very aggressive for example in 2023 Vuelta (put the sword to Remco and took him out of the race), 2024 Vuelta, here. 2020 Tour is the main race where he screwed up. If he’d been aggressive, I think he could have won.

I do think he came up with the older school mentality that GTs are all about conserving energy, attrition, and strategic bursts of aggression. The new guys have a very different attitude and have changed the game. Roglic has embraced that more and more and maybe even surprised himself by what he can do when he really goes for it.

Great final stage. It was very interesting, it didn't compensate how dreadful the rest of the race was but still a great final stage.

The rest of the race was really not that bad. We had an all-time great stage finish on stage 1 and a fine finish on Montserrat where two riders were just very evenly matched as they also showed the day before. Stage 6 was of course not good but that was on account of the weather.

And then it finished with an all-time great Barcelona stage where the race lead changed for the first time ever; it was a fine race all in all. There were even echelons on stage 5.

That's pretty true.

Catalunya produces better routes these days than 10 years ago, unlike say Tirreno. Still in this particular instance I thought 2 of the MTFs were a little too soft.

Aaaand I just dislike 3 sprinting stages in frigging Catalunya.

He could at least have 2 more, crashed out PN and Dauphine in the leaders jersey. Time to win Swiss now to have all great 7 one week races.
If he would have won that Tour, he could have been the first to win the 10 major tours.
But the first to win the 7 big one week races, is already amazing.

If I'm not mistaken there hasn't been anyone who even managed to get a podium in all 7. Richie Porte and Quintana were close.
