El Pistolero said:When was the last time you saw an epic KoM battle?
Bahamontes and Lucien van Impe, those were the days. All on youtube for us to see.
It creates a different competition, where riders try to get in the break to score points. The alternative is no one moves because the best climbers aren't interested, and there's no competition regarding the jersey whatsoever, until one of the GC guys wins it by accident (like that ridiculous combined classification).El Pistolero said:That the KoM is not interesting because some second rate cyclist goes for it like you claim. It's boring for that reason.
Call it the KoB jersey, but please not the KoM.
Nowadays they don't add anything, or not much, to the race. Such a shame.

If it makes you feel better, the competition is not called "king of the mountains". It's the "mountains jersey" and, officially, "grand prix of the mountains".
hrotha said:Purito hasn't worked towards the KOM jersey, no. So I think you have me beat.
So how does this contradict my assessment that Clarke deserves it?
No, I want the secondary jerseys to provide some sort of competition of their own, because otherwise they add nothing to the race.

Each year, as soon as I entered the room, I raised the curtain and counted more faces: sixteen, including those down in the ditch; twenty-nine, of whom eight were perched in the medlar; forty-seven, besides those in the chicken house. They look alike, they seem polite, they have freckles on their cheeks, they smile, some have lips stained with blackberries. Soon I saw the whole bridge filled with round-faced characters, huddled, because they had no more room to move in; they chomped the kernels of corn, then they gnawed on the ears. And so, as year followed year,I saw the ditch vanish, the tree, the bramble patch, hidden by hedges of calm smiles, between round cheeks, moving, chewing leaves. You have no idea how many people can be contained in a confined space like that little field of corn, especially when they are seated, hugging their knees, motionless. They must have been many more than they seemed: I saw the hump of the hill become covered with a thicker and thicker crowd; but now that the ones on the bridge have got into the habit of straddling one another's shoulders, my gaze can no longer reach that far. This year, finally, as I raise the curtain, the window frames only an expanse of faces: from one corner to the other, at all levels and all distances, those round, motionless, entirely flat faces are seen, with a hint of a smile, and in their midst, many hands grasping the shoulders of those in front. Even the sky has disappeared. I might as well leave the window.

I haven´t said anything about Clarke not deserving it, your own claim is the race is designed to favor the GC contenders to take the secondary jerseys, which is utterly BS, fact is nobody chased the KOM jersey this year, but surely could have, there been plenty of points to pick up if you went for it. Clarke just got the opportunity, and now he chasing it.
Regarding Purito, I think it´s obvious to everyone he been fighting for the overall gc, and to say he don´t deserve the KOM jersey and therefor the points he won by doing that, and then say he didn´t work for it?
That´s f.. lame!!
cineteq said:Yes!!! I predict he wins by 3.5 minutes today. Contador and Valverde will have heavy legs, however Alberto will keep his 2nd place. Also I see Froome completely collapsing and falling out of top 10, thus enabling Roche to get into top 10 and saving his season. Gesink will get a big jump from 6th to 4th.
OK, a race with a gazillion MTFs does not favour the GC contenders getting all the jerseys. Gotcha.Fidolix said:oh boy, nothing get inside huh.
