Lotto Nl Jumbo started 2 seconds early, it amazes me you can get away with doing things like that. Happens really often now I pay attention to it.
Timer starts when the team/rider starts in a TT, it is not fixed for a specific time
So you mean they have changed the rules since '89?

It's the same as in skiing (both Alpine, Nordic and biathlon). There's a countdown clock and a timing gate, if you leave slightly ahead of your timing point, your time starts the instant that timing gate is broken. In cycling this is probably to do with the transponders as there isn't a physical gate bar that is broken through by the athletes.

However, if the countdown reaches zero the time begins, regardless of whether you do or not. That's why, for example, you had Białoblocki and Kittel having that timing anomaly at the Tour de Pologne a couple of years back (something like 54" between them but they finished together or something silly like that because Kittel had been the minuteman for the Pole) and sometimes a difference between two teams on the road isn't always an exact number of minutes' gap, but Delgado was still penalized for his late start. Otherwise if weather was bad, riders would be waiting for better conditions on the road, and backlogging the start by waiting in the timing gate until the optimal time like ski jumpers.

Or in the simplest of terms, the system is set up so that:
- you can't gain an advantage by starting too early
- you still lose out if you start too late

I don't get the need to start a GT on a technical TT.

You end up losing riders, even GT contenders, because of corners.. Do you want to test a rider or a team, don't make it technical from the get go
This, if it had been raining it would have been carnage.

Fixed that for you.

That said, I have no problem with making the course technical. Just make it individual.
Technical TTT, which - I guess - would be a TTTT.
Just a shame it isn't in a town starting with 'T', then it would be "Technical Team Time Trial through [T-town]"

Orica phenomenal!
Let's not overdo it. 4th is hardly phenomenal. Just about where they belong

Sky on the same time as Sunweb/Quick Step. Looks like Froome has won round 1 already
With three feather weights, that's phenomenal.
You are aware that Orica have a reputation in TTT's and that these 3 have probably been saved the most as well? Also it's not just the team with the most ITT specialists that win. TTT is about teamwork, and Orica has always been good at that

You are aware that lineups change race to race
