Torrential rain already on the stage it seems.
And the punctures have already started with Chaves and Roche among the early victims.

Why are punctures more common in rain?

Heavy rain and their first rain for a long time. Washes all the debris into the road in that scenario.

Today doesn't matter if it is raining or not. I want for tomorrow

Today could be bonkers - expect Bertie & Sharkie to go full tilt.

This. I'd love to see Nibali and Alberto take it to the race!!!!

Washes more crap out onto the road surface.

Breakaway candidate predictions going well. Jungels has put in a huge dig as well, but unfortunately he's been brought back too.
Early days yet.

Nibali will almost certainly attack today - on either the climb or the descent. He will probably gain time on some rivals but I doubt he will finish solo.

Agreed. This weather is going to make for an exciting stage I think. Just hope everyone stays safe.

Dennis can't climb. He will be murdered in the final climb

In this GC field, I agree, but not necessarily in a breakaway group that's been given plenty of time. Depends who else is in that group of course.

Still no break gone. Some cross headwind too apparently. With the torrential rain as well there must be a lot of nervous riders out there.

This would have been a great stage to watch right from the start.

With all the (not unjustified) whinging about the boredom of the Tour, it was still nice not to have to wait until 3pm every day for coverage to start.

Agreed on all counts.

I love seeing the break trying to form. One of the most exciting parts of the race...sometimes.

The pace is very high, km 52, I think it's been an hour of racing, riders are being dropped, no break.

It is even more insane because of the rain. This is looking good for nibali

Nibali to go nuts on the descent, Froome to lose 20 seconds and Contador and the other GC riders to lose another 30 seconds...

First of all he has to be first on top then if there is too much risk involved I don't think he will push at this stage of the race, we'll see.

Puts me in mind of that stage Calmejane won in the Tour. He had to work so hard for that win all day long.
Just ten minutes to go until we get coverage. Can't wait!
