Of all the riders to call a wheel sucker, Simon Yates, who is too attacking for his own good, is among the most bizarre. Nairo might as well declare Dan Martin a wheel sucker while he is at it. The guy tried to win just about every possible stage in the Giro until he completely exploded himself.
+1000. At this juncture, I hope that he wins the Vuelta, unless Pinot can work a miracle of course :) .

Today Thibaut was a bit impatient, attacking solo with 60km to go was Albertaut, crazy, but nice to see in today's cycling. When you're 16th, you got to attack, not suck wheels. Not much time gained on most ahead of him in the standings. Marginal gains...isn't that how you win a GT :p ?

Glad to see him do something. The toughest is yet to come. Entertaining racing today, entertaining Vuelta so far, no idea who will win, podium, or top-5. You don't see that everyday as in every GT).

I think you are miss placing the words. I don't agree with what Quintana said, but him and Valverde were calling out the MS team for not sharing the work, which is fine by me for strategic reasons. But in no place he was calling Simon a wheel sucker. That sounds like a lawyer arranging the words.

I’m not rearranging his words, I don’t speak Spanish, I’m just assuming that other people’s translations earlier in the thread are accurate!

They were upset that MS didn't work. That's all.

I believe that it is MS right to play their cards and if they believe that the Movistar riders are the ones to beat they they were right in not helping Movistar.

No way should MS have led the pursuit -- what does it matter to Yates if Pinot gained 2 minutes? If Movistar want to win their home tour they need to take charge with all the top contenders so close in time.

I'm not articulating this very well, but Movistar has the firepower and riders in 2nd/3rd. Kind of silly to poke at M-S. On another note, what's with Quintana and his mini-attacks? He could have shed a few of the leading bunch, I think, with about 10k to go.

Chapeau for getting in the break, but Pinot wasted some good legs today -- maybe he wouldn't gain 2 minutes but if he'd attacked with 20k to go he probably would have clawed back one minute.

So that means that Yates doesn't want to win Vuelta, right?

They're perfectly entitled not to work, but having the leaders jersey has some unwritten obligations, so Movistar is perfectly entitled to moan about it. The way I see it, it's just some mind games from both teams.

Absolutely Movi can complain. But at least in hindsight MS succeeded yesterday. They played straight up in the Giro with a stronger team than they have here, and they missed out. I think they would be stupid pretending to by Sky again and try to control the race.

Quintana has a way of speaking that is characterised among many other things by the use of majestatic plural when he talks about himself and the use of indefinite present to describe facts or situations where past present would be more accurate. So anything he might have said along the lines of 'Yates rides following wheels' should be interpreted as 'Yates has ridden following wheels', which is fact that was true yesterday, not something he always does.

Quintana and Valverde just said than Yates TEAM was wearing La Roja and they were just sucking his wheel all the stage, all the work was for Movistar. Yates said his guys were tired.
