Either Castroviejo or Dennis to win. Of the guys who have a real shot at winning overall Valverde takes time on everyone else and Quintana and Lopez both lose enough time it will be extremely difficult to get it back.
Dennis should totally blitz this, it's his kind of length and he's hardly done anything since the prologue. This should also be an indication of whether Porte and Nibali's form is recovering after the TdF.

I don't expect Nibs and LRP drilling hard today. They both prepare to RR, no important TT in their program before next year. Today probably just good training ride with steady high tempo without leaving too much to the road.

Quite a lot of the GC contenders rode the Abu Dhabi Tour this year, which had a flat 12 km ITT. At that time, Kelderman was 11 seconds faster than Valverde. Curiously, Izagirre, López and Yates all posted the exact same time - 21 seconds slower than Valverde. Buchmann was one second faster than them. Quintana and Kruijswijk did not participate in the race. Mas was a further 21 seconds slower than Yates, Izzy and Superman.

Izagirre has since improved and approached his Movistar level, though, so regarding him that result is pretty useless.

Edit: Aru was officially two seconds slower than the trio of Yates, Izagirre and López, but I guess the commissaires made a mistake and timed him for one minute more than he actually rode.

Yates will barely lose any time to Valverde if any.
This is pretty much what I've been predicting the whole time. There are enough hills on the road to make the s/t scenario possible.

People are talking about Valverde gaining a minute on Yates? Nearly impossible. But let's see.. I still think that Yates will be in the top 10.

Valverde 8th and Yates 9th on the stage. :D

Predicting small gaps between GC but considering the toughness of the course could be huge gaps just as easily

Of the GC top-10
Ion best
Valverde +10-15"
Kruijswijk(/Pinot if he's on a good day) +20"
Yates/Buchmann/Uran/Mas +30-35"
Quintana(/Pinot if he's on a bad day) +45"
Lopez +55"

In this field, on this route, in the 3rd week of a GT, I think GC favorites could well finish top 5. But none of them are beating Dennis though.

Nor Castroviejo (it is in Spain) and Campenaerts. On 4-5 there will be GC contender(s) indeed.

I do have a feeling Valverde is going to produce TT that is comparable what Berto used to able to perform in relation to other pure climbers. The hilly profile is not exactly bad for him either.

We will see, it can all turn up-side-down as well and we have Quintana as the best of GC :D

I am thinking Castroviejo v Dennis v Campenaerts

Other strong prformances outside of GC - Tao, Richie & Oliveria

Kwiatkowski's injuries will mean he wont be up there

GC
Keldermann, Izagirre (Ion) and maybe Uran to make up some time

De La Cruz to be up there (is he still GC)

Valverde, Yates, Pinot, Mas and Krushweak pretty much same time

Lopez, Buchmann and Quintana to lose time

Nicola Conci Trek nr 164 a non-starter

.@nikconci will not start today’s TT @lavuelta. He has spent the last two weeks gaining invaluable experience in his first Grand Tour, including stages spent in the breakaway. The decision has been made for Nicola to take some time to recover ahead of his end of season races.

Today's #LaVuelta18 individual time trial is much lumpier than the official profile suggests with almost 500m of climbing. The only flat roads come in the final 1/4 of the stage. Straight from the start there is an 800m climb averaging 7%.

I fear Yates will produce a surprise result and be leading the Vuelta by more than a minute after today's ITT. Hoping otherwise.

Are you trying to say that Yates will win more than 33 seconds at Valverde?

Good luck on that!
