Appreciate you're emotional and disappointed but at 28 Quintana's career is far from over.

I can't see anything wrong in what Movistar did. They rode as a team as far as I could see and everyone gave it everything they had - which was not nearly enough

4 way fight for 2nd and 3rd tomorrow - if Valverde tries anything for the lead (and he doesn't appear to have the legs) he could easily end up 5th. And we know how he loves the defend places.

lol I'm not disappointed, I'm just calling it as it is. Some riders peak young.

Kruijswijk rode so well...especially when you think a few weeks ago he was battling against Thomas, Froome, Dumoulin in the Tour

Tibo Pinot is a great climber and deserves that win again..a real attacking rider

Movistar duo just didn't have it ....Not a climb to suit Valverde

Mas and MAL could have followed Yates ...surprised they didnt...they seemed to have more at the end

Yates loos so much stronger than others ...I wonder if it is he is so strong or the others are not

Bravo Tibo! And bravo Simon!

Happy :) .
Great stage! Chapeau to Tibo, Simon, and Steven -- all showed great courage. Big fan of Kruijswijk's early move -- he rolled the dice and won. Of the top three finishers, he had the weakest legs but probably not the weakest heart. Yates stamped his authority on the Vuelta today. Barring disaster tomorrow, he has it won.

I do agree. It's a bummer to be found out, and even worse to find yourself out. You put the team to work because you think you're ready to attack, and your body just doesn't cooperate. That Valverde made silly decisions, during that 6k-3k to go point are pretty inconsequential when you just aren't good enough.

He will always know his peak performance is still at least 10 to 20x better then G or Yates. Must hurt when you put in better rides at your peak and lesser by far riders win grand tours

I think tomorrow we will see Valverde do all he can to defend his podium position and not go after the win. This podium, if he can hold on, will be a LOT to him.

How was Simon's 800m attack for you today?

This. Yates basically has this one in the back as nobody will go from far out tomorrow

Congrats Simon Yates, the only rider with balls today
Don't think it's so much about balls. It's about having way stronger legs than anyone else.

Yep.

As Merckx said, it's easy to attack when you have the strongest legs, but when you really deserve the plaudits is when you don't have the legs and keep fighting
Not sure how much stronger than mas and Lopez Yates really was today. Probably a bit but looking at the results from previous mtf's I just don't think Yates really was so much better.

I think the difference was significant. Lopez couldn't even sustain his late attack (it was Uran who drove that move to the line) and Mas was just barely hanging on with them. Yates only lost 10-15 seconds (if GPS was right) since they attacked after having earlier opened up a minute-long gap doing most of the work in the process.

Just shows how hard it is to win a GT, even an "easier" one like the Vuelta. I still think Quintana can win a GT again, but at this point a Giro-Tour or Tour-Vuelta seems to have been a failed strategy. Would love to see him ride Giro as a super-dom, skip the Tour and go for the Vuelta next year.

He’s won the weakest Grand tour this decade, but I actually like the bloke when he rides like this. You can’t attack like this every stage obviously but I just dislike ANY rider who waits until 300m to go when he is clearly stronger. I still rate Quintana as 10x the rider regardless

17/18 Quintana isn’t ever going to win a GT let alone a big one week race , he is struggling big time. I’m just pointing to that his peak years he lost to Froome, those rides win some of these other tours by minutes

That wasn't one effort by mal though. He attacked and Uran seemed to be dropped. Next time we saw them Uran was back in the group and attacked. mal was a few seconds behind again just to attack again on the last 100m and catch Uran. Pretty sure he could have gone faster
