I am interested to see how Schmid goes in his first race in Jayco colors. Supposedly he has prepared for this race so its a wait and see - Its a wide open race.

He disappeared from the start list, Dunbar too. So Jayco only has Berhe (who could get a good result in this field).

I noticed that Jayco had three last minute withdrawals and one late replacement. They will start 5 riders. Berhe could top ten GC IF he rides a aconservative race. It's a wide open race.

Nowadays the top guys are still at altitude and these races are just to find out form for domestiques it seems.

I'm probably biased tho cause this parcours actually gives Van Gils a shot at doing good.
any idea if van Gils actually planed to do any races before, or did the UCI hand out a ban which ends one day before his first race on purpose?

If the whole race gets cancelled it would be a big blow for a lot of riders.

Even though I am sympathetic with the motivations of the farmers they are starting to piss me off.

I'm not sure if blocking a cyling race will get the farmers what they want, but let's hope soon that farmers return to farming so cyclist can race. (of course local agricultural groups are often sponsors too, so ... )

That's not what they are doing. They have a protest going on somewhere, police are prioritising that as a deployment of manpower, so cannot provide the coverage the race needs. I suspect the bike race scarcely crossed the horizon of awareness of those arranging the farmers' protest.

Not sure what the uncertainty over future days is: have the farmers not made clear the duration of their actions?

Don't think they're blocking the race. According to PCS, the cancellation is due to police officers being needed to police demonstrations, so they cannot steward the race.

*** farmers.
I just don't understand the "we feel disrespected so we will disrespect others" thinking. I'm sorry that being a farmer sucks, but making life more difficult for cyclists won't improve your situation, nor will it likely help you gain support for your cause.

At this point, just end this charade and call the whole thing off entirely. Or nuke some farmers into orbit, I'd be okay with that too.
