Thanks. I really hope the Ancares stage is raced hard, because it could be great. However, it seems probable that the GC contenders will save themselves for Lagos de Somiedo and the Angliru.

In general, this is one of the best Vuelta routes I can remember.

Anyone know if it would be Menchov, Duarte and Sastre there?

Menchov and Sastre had the Vuelta in their schedule after not being invited to the Tour. Don't know about Duarte.

Another couple to consider are Purito and Di Luca.

The Schleck sisters are also very much expected in Benidorm, but for other reasons than the racing :D

If he makes it there. In 2008 he crashed out of the race from the top 10 overall on the descent from the Alto del Cordal.

I'm looking forward to the Farrapona stage too, but also think that if they're doing Galicia, they should include this:

2km @ 13,7% - then they could descend back into the centre of Ourense, putting it just over 10km from the stripe.

The beauty with the Vuelta profiles is that every single profile is the exact same website, you just have to change the number which corresponds to the stage. So rather than finding the profile for stage 2 you just take the profile of stage 1 and change "1" to "2".

Blanco might do well on home soil too. Same with JJ.

@TheHitch: Last stage is on the 11th of September. I guess they'll ride several laps on the usual course of Paseo del Prado and Recoletos between Atocha Railway Station and Plaza de Colón, with the finish near Cibeles.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Sky coach Rod Ellingworth has said Rigoberto Uran will likely ride the Vuelta.

It was a pleasure to see Nibali get back to him and gift him a stage he turned out not to deserve anyway.

To be fair, the La Manzaneda climb is only 5,1%, but very long. A bit like the Alto da Torre, but more consistent, easier to keep a rhythm. I suspect Hitch you are referring to stage 10, the 45km flat ITT?

I'm going to stages 17-20.

Would be good to see Farrar win on that day then.

Is this the way up they'll be going in the race?

If so, it looks to have some pretty steep sections.

Might as well link to a couple of other profiles well I'm at it:

Farrapona: http://www.altimetrias.net/aspbk/verPuerto.asp?id=655

Ancares: http://www.altimetrias.net/aspbk/verPuerto.asp?id=297

Up to the stage 15 profile it looks great and then... Trying to keep more cyclists (sprinters and lead-out men) in the race?

Peña Cabarga is really steep, short but difficult. They used it on stage 14 last year, and it opened up some gaps.

After that it's a bit of a letdown. They get to use the Basque country, it's a big occasion, first time in a long time, but they want to finish in big cities (and not Donostia), which is frustrating. There are lots of good, short difficult climbs in the Basque country, some of which are being used. The 50km flat after Urkiola is a real waste though.

I would love to see the hill they used on stage 3 last year back. What an enormous gap was opened there! Relatively speaking of course.

You mean the Gilbert one? Yea, that'd be good to see. The Antón one is back this year (that was stage 4 last year iirc). The stage 8 finish is a frightening little ramp that tops out at 28% too - could be good. They usually use part of it when climbing to Monte Abantos - no MTF this year, but the best of the base town. A bit like going through the town of Valdepeñas de Jaén and finishing on that nasty, nasty ramp, instead of going past and along and up to Sierra de la Pandera I guess.
