Had a chance to watch the whole climb of Angliru now.
Great ride by Cobo!
Froome once again rode out of his skin. Sky clearly made the wrong choice in making him work for Wiggins (the power of hindsight:)).
Poels showing again he's one of top 5 climbers this Vuelta.
Menchov rode better, as I expected. Seems to me he timed his peak a week too late though. Could have won this otherwise (if he avoided his usual unnecessary time losses).
Monfort went waaay better than I expected. Thought he'd lose more time.
Nibali is the one that puzzles me really:confused:
What happened to him. After seeing him closing the gap to 4" the other day, I was sure he'd own the overall.

Waiting for power output data to be calculated to see just how credible these performance were.

Edit:I just saw that Cobo climbed faster than Contador in '08.
Also, what's the deal with not seeing Wiggins being dropped? Camera motorcycle fall?

No, you saw it wrong. Cobo climbed more than half a minute SLOWER than Contador.

For the whole climb.

One of the more reliable Clinic posters has him faster than Contador for the last 6km.

It's in the power estimates thread.

While I applaud your enthusiasm, I wouldn't go so far as to call Cobo a legend.
What are Sastre and Menchov then, to name just two?

indeed he's not a legend like the guys who won there but for me he was always kind of special.he suffered like a dog when his team leaders were busted in 2008,then he had a depression, wanted to quit cycling this year.he deserves it because he was always regarded as a big talent, emotionally unstable.

jens' gimmick is to support any doper.
I've noticed that, yes.
Kash, Ricco, who else?:D
But, as you pointed out yourself, Cobo is a doper only by association (like 99 % of the peloton).
@Dekker_Tifosi: even if that is true, it's still a mighty impressive time.
@jens_attacks: yes, always had the talent, but I did not expect this. Podium at best at a GT.

Did anyone notice Cobo's gearing for today's ride?

I thought he was spinning away with one more lower gear to go.

Wiggin's, when he ran out of steam seemed to have no lower gear to fall back on.

My best way to measure whether a rider is doped or not is to check if jens_attack supports said rider, if that's the case then I know what's going on! :p

Cobo was the one with the lowest gearing of the top favorites.

Cobo: 34x32
Froome: 36x28
Wiggins: 38x32
Mollema: 36x28

That's assuming they don't stick him in Cav's leadout train!

The way he's been going in this Vuelta he could do the Tony Martin work from 4km out in the train for Cav and then drop nearly all the GC contenders riding on the front for Wiggins in the mountains!

Boonen out with scaphoid fracture.

That's a tough bone to heal. Should be out of the worlds.

As a fan I truly enjoyed the stage. Sad Menchov lost all that time to a mechanical. He's just on the passenger seat during the mountains. Unable to do anything while his teammate goes away. I may join the Poels band wagon. Great ride.

Also surprised by the way this thread developed. Like the forum discovered today there's such thing as doping. Everybody obeys to the forum rules on other races, with other riders, but today...well, it's almost like doping isn't a problem, as long as you go unnoticed, as long as your performances don't make waves. Much like the bio passport.

hey! what are all these attacks on jens_attacks???

get off your high horses, would you? attack the riders, fine, and go to the Clinic while you're at it

jens_attacks loves truly cycling. jens_attacks truly loves cyclists. some more than others, yes, but he choses them by their spirit not some bias based on nationality or perceived righteousness.

you think your faves are clean? lol!

would you please save your nasty comments for somebody that isn't as passionate and, yes, fair-minded, about cycling as jens_attacks?

sheesh

Just another example of bias against eastern Europeans.:p
Anyway, the Individual is all about shooting, with 1 minutes penalties for every miss.

I read many suspect cobo, which is pathetic, probably none of you know story behind him. cobo was talent the likes of contador in spain. but is mentally unstable and difficult person. he said after 2008 tour he had most fun ever in cycling and he felt betrayed by piepoli and ricco. he went to caisse where he couldn't get along with anyone and felt very bad. now back at matxin he finally is showing his inmensen talent. like it or not cobo is clean and let's hope this time he will stay mentally cable. physically he's incredible. the guy is 176 and 71 kg and climbs like a mountaingoat
