Farrar was smart coming up the opposite side where he was off of Cav's radar. How many sleeps until the Volta ao Algarve?

If it would have been anyone else trying to give their lead out man a win as thanks for their help, then he'd have been praised to the hilt, yet coz it's cav it's seen as wrong. Quite amusing reactions

Garmin worked to bring back the break, and brought him to the front on the last lap, but yeah he did the sprint all by hisself.

[edit]Giving props to Matt Wilson for looking after him today.

Sounded like Matt was looking after him in the way you described, his interview fairly reinforced the strong likelihood that he was by himself in the sprint. So credit to him.

HTC tactics have been a bit odd over the last couple of flat stages. Getting slightly complacent.

Still Cav gets the Green and 3 stages, Velits a stage and Position 3 in the overall so well done to them.

Dumb move by Cav. He should have done the lead out if he really wanted Goss to win... Dumb place to soft pedal...

I agree. He could easily have done the lead out for Goss, then get on Farrar's wheel and get 3rd or 4th in the end to hold on to the green jersey

Wow how unlucky is Eze
3rd in stage Purito won
2nd in Andorra
3rd in KOM, with teammate 2nd
2nd in combination
2nd in GC.

Thank god Nibali didnt have an extra 20 metres to take away his consolation - stage win, yesterday.

And i think they were up there in team gc as well. Yep -3rd.

Seems like a nice try by Cav but it looked very arrogant and optimistic.
And I am just wondering what is more arrogant or a**kicking: How it happend in the end or if it would have worked.

But honestly I think, if you want to thank your leadoutman then lead him out :D

Tuned in just in time to see the final 4km.
Just when Van Avermaet attacked.

Good sprint by Farrar, what the hell was Cavendish doing?

Making a hash of trying to gift Goss a win without losing the points jersey. Well intentioned, but not too bright.

Dont know. Gifting wins is for F1 not a GT stage.

FAR-RARR-RAR-RARR-RARRRRR!!! :)

Really happy for him.

In case people wonder about him, he has a longstanding reputation here amongst my friends and coworkers who know him well as being a genuinely great kid, very unpretentious and down to earth.

Uh, where does all this gifting talk stem from? Cavendish just wasn't quick enough.

Nah, wrong, sorry, the overhead cam shows it clearly.
Cav moves past Bole and Davies, tries to stay half a wheel behind Goss, but along comes Farrar.
Cav accelerates past Goss, when he sees the threat, but Tyler had already flown.

Daft move. Would have been a bit of a HTC p*ss take of the field, had it come off.
Glad Tyler made them pay for being overly arrogant.

In interviews after his last couple stage wins, Cav said that Goss had been doing unbelievable lead outs (which he had been) and that he would like to give him a stage win as well...

Nice idea, but they obviously didn't plan/execute it very well as Cav should have done an actual lead out
