Am I hearing it right "Richie Porte, ex-surfer from Tasmania"?
Movistar gets a lot of criticism for their tactics. But today, without pics to fully judge it, they seem to have executed the ecehlons perfectly with Quintana up the road and the three strongest roleurs on the team (Erviti, Oliveira, Rojas) on his side.
No idea why Astana is riding but well...![]()
Thats true of course. But usually you attack (as its always a bit of a gamble) with your second leader (if you have one). And regarding the mountains - they one coming are not that hard anymore. It's good but it'd be a lot better to have Valverde there.. Quintana lost 2:34 on the last mountain stage. I would have no faith in him to actually hang on and win the race even if he takes the lead today.

Definitely looks like the break is working better than the chasers. The time gap is constantly growing, the peloton is steadily losing this tug of war.
Sunweb hitting the front of the break with 3 guys now (one of them Kelderman himself), Movistar and DQ behind them.
Pics from the peloton now - Astana seen close to the front, still unclear if they have decided to help, or if they are backing off.
Definitely looks like the break is working better than the chasers.
The gap will come down towards the end when Movistar is the only team pulling for GC
As you posted that, we see Movistar and DQ cursing each other out at the front of the break, they are clearly not in agreement on what should be done.
Movistar and Sunweb are now pulling the break together.
