Lets be honest, this is all about having Valverde, a Movistar legend, and not Quintana, a rider leaving at the end of the year, on the podium.

They'll claim they wanted to hurt the Jumbo domestiques...
If he has a puncture, he will lose the Vuelta today. Its definitely worth the risk. They also would have hoped Astana would be slimmed more down, unfortunately it didn't happen. The interesting thing is Astana basically helping Roglic saving this Vuelta. Why not try to play poker?

Astana and Movistar should bluff!!!
It is worth to risk it. Quintana most likely fade in the remaining stages but will make the Slovenians work for it.

Movistar pushing the pace doesn't increase the chances of Rog having a puncture. It just eats away the advantage Quintana would have other the rest of the GC guys.

I think the tactics was worth a try but when they saw Astana still had 3 doms + 1 dropping back from the break they should have stopped.

Valverde is on the podium, with or without Quintana!
This was about breaking Roglic, but apparently Astana is not interested in that, and wants more that 4th place of Lopez
