Danish commentators saying - from some source I, with my terrible memory, can't remember - that the reason Movistar stopped wasn't because of "second thoughts", but because they realised the chasers were coming back through the cars.

There would have been a fistfight at the finish line, and rightly so. You don't attack the jersey on a flat stage after a crash, and honestly even in the mountains it would be hard to justify.

It is a race.

If they would crash 3km before Alpe d'Huez they should soft pedal the climb?

Everyone knew there was going to be crosswinds. Same thing applies.

If someone doesnt like too bad. Things happening that is out of your control is just life.

Why the leader's jersey in particular? Is he better than the guy in second? or the guy in last place? Might as well not attack anyone....

F**K this. I hate this. The race supposed to be the fight. No mercies.

The problem is that there's decades of precedent in these situations, like it or not. There are many gray areas but this instance doesn't seem to be one of them. In VTT and CX, a mechanical or crash is just part of the race but on the road, with everyone riding in a pack you have to account for a touch of the wheels or someone crashing in front of you.

Yes, that was really obvious. They simply let group drafts on the cars. No matter how would feel about such a move, its pretty meh seeing cars influence the race like that.

Movistar DS Arrieta pretty much accused the UCI of giving carte blanche to the team cars via race radio to motorpace everybody back into the peloton. Which is pretty scandalous if true.

According to the CN live coverage

"Movistar DS Arrieta just told Spanish TV that the UCI judges were allowing the riders caught behind the crash to pace back behind the team cars, so Movistar then slowed down at the front. Arrieta also claimed the team had prepared to attack in the crosswinds before the crash. They are trying to say the race was on but there was a distinct lack of fair play after the crash. "

Certain American crashed while wearing the jersey on the final ascent of a stage during the 2003 Tour de France.
Can't remember what happened afterward.

Well, then f*ck precedent ;)

Crashing is part of the sport, in any racing sport.... you don't see anyone waiting in Formula 1, because a competitor had a crash.

If so, it will be a bigger scandal than the Movi pull itself...
