Since you're all apparently sleeping I'll do it myself.

Longest stage of this year's Vuelta, with 6 degrees, headwind and rain. Vegni approves.

4400m of climbing.

Expecting some epic breakaway action since GC riders/teams are pointless and hopeless

If it's cold and windy I'm sure this will be a day for the break and GC men will just sit on. Although it could mean that Roglic has to -- the horror! -- put on a rain jacket while riding, so we could see a shakeup...

It's a shame they put the hardest stage in the third week last. If we had La Covatilla on stage 14 then for sure we would see attacks on stages 15 and 16, from the riders that know they have no other choice. As it is, Carapaz, Carthy, Martin and Movistar most likely have their eyes fixed firmly on stage 17. Carrying the faint possibility of winning it on La Covatilla means that they are not desperate enough to try anything before then - something they may regret come Madrid.

Movistar may try something but most likely with designs on the stage rather than overall victory.

Today, Soler probably attacks.

They're off! I hope this is good! I'll have it on screen 3 whilst working from home (but sadly not until Eurosport have it on...)

Weather conditions are better at the start (13C and no rain). Cold and rain are only expected in the last 100km.

We're missing the breakaway contest again. Enthusiasm is there, but the leash still short and getting shorter.
Prime week for the breakaways.

They did the last 120 km of this stage in 2016 (stage 7) and it finished in a half bunch sprint with Van Genechten beating Bennati, Valverde and Gilbert after the last of the break (Clarke and LL Sanchez) were caught on the drag finish. There was also a bit of a pileup on the final bridge so a wet finish could be a bit dicey

Pretty sure Contador crashed pretty heavily that stage? He rode around like a mummy the stages after that

A hard pace again with no moves successfully sticking prior the start of the categorised climbing
