If GC teams wanna win the stage they shouldn't let Storer get to the climb with 5 minutes surely.
Very little chance that Storer wins this stage going solo from so far out. He's just out to hoover up all of the mountain points.

Valley isn't that long. Peloton would need to commit to chasing in those 20km quite hard IMO.
Storer barely lost time to the peloton both times he won from the break on the final climb.

In all seriousness, this wet, steep descent is very favourable for solo riders. The peloton especially were taking very little risks.
Yes, I think the gap will begin will come down before the final climb, it will need to.
There is too much firepower riding behind and I expect that Storer will suffer a lot on the final climb.

Maybe it's because the races are so hard and the level in the peloton is quite split... so nobody dares to spend any energy if he doesn't feel he really has it.
A lot of stuff in bike racing is boring. Thats just the nature of the sporting side of cycling. Thats why its so good to have some castelli and eglises to look at now and then.What is it with long, boring solos and 2021?

Caruso started Velefique with almost 6 minutes on the GC group and finised with a gap of 1:05 to Roglic at the finish, and that was a 35 min long climb. I'm not sure 5 minutes are enough for Storer today on a 50 min long climb after going solo from 70km to the finish.

Well, the solos aren't boring, nobody can blame the riders who do them... but what's disappointing for a viewer of course is how often it looks like the group/ peloton behind just don't care, don't chase, don't try anything themselves, just let whoever goes first go...
It's probably a mixture of split level legs and fear of losing visibly.
