in the end Groupama did alright, I'd say. 50m more from Guarnieri (?) and Demare probably would have won. That is a big "if".
He actually called it as Modolo and Cort, but he had just been talking about the late attack/early sprint that was (I think) Modolo, so an understandable misspeaking.Always boggles me how the commentators can call it wrong. Kirby was like it's between Demare and Cort as Jakobsen was clearly moving way faster than everyone.
Absolutely not. Did not have the same turn of speed when he and Jakobsen both tried to get around Demare.Cort had to come from too far behind, otherwise he could possibly have won. But well done by Jakobsen. Demaré looked a lot better today,

Philipsen's sprint a bit messed up by that late acceleration of his own teammate. Got boxed in and couldn't recover.

He launched his sprint long before Jakobsen in order to get around Matthews & Co. though. Maybe he hadn't won anyway, but both Demaré and Jakobsen were still much better positioned than him.
Cort's major problem was Matthews failing to hold Mezgec's wheel in the leadout , causing Cort to lose ground before starting his sprint - In saying that Cort lacked top end speed.
Well considering he had too put in more of an effort before the last one hundred meters, it was no wonder he was lacking top speed though. He might not have been fast enough anyway, cause Jakobsen's top speed was very impressive, but Jakobsen definitely also had a much easier road to victory than Cort. But EF also messed up by having a teammate at the front inside the final kilometer, who was nowhere near Cort.
The reason why Cort had to put in an effort was because Matthews could not hold Mezgec's wheel - It was a joke that Mezgec had time to turn around looking for Matthews - Cort rode the perfect final when he planned to come off Matthews wheel and launch his sprint - Cort was unlucky to not finish closer - It was noticeable that Mezgec rolled over the finish line and then immediately turned around to ride to the team buses.
At least in the Giro and Tour, these stages have some nice looking scenery. This doesn't even give us that
I still think that being on Matthews's wheel wasn't the right choice, with both FdJ, Alpecin and DQS in front of them. If he had been on the wheel of his teammate, he would have been sitting right on the FdJ train when the sprint started, but that is obviously easier said than done and it might not have changed the outcome.
Generally feel like there's a color filter on the GT broadcasts to me.I love the look of Spain. It’s not as naturally beautiful as Italy or France, but has it’s own unique appeal.
