Vuelta a España Vuelta a España 2023, stage 19: La Bañeza - Íscar, 177.1k

Groves has lost the two previous sprints so it's hardly like nobody else has a shot. At the very least, UAE should help them out (Novak, Fisher-Black and Soler could all be committed to the chase depending on how strong the break is) given that Molano has been almost as good this Vuelta and, you know, won the most recent sprint.
Groves or Remco, so.

Alpecin must do everything in their power to have Groves sprint for the win (either keep it together or put him in the breakaway) because if he doesn't and Remco goes loco tomorrow there's actually a real possibility he might lose the green jersey after all.

(Okay, the risk is still quite small with the sprint stage on sunday but one badly timed mechanical could ruin it all so better to be safe already today)

Shame the wind is not blowing today - could have been very interesting. The final could be a real dangerous messy affair with tired & bored GC teams & sprint teams going kerb to kerb and full gas. If no one goes down, it will be a small miracle.
Groves is the obvious pick for the win, but he's been busy getting green jersey points so maybe someone else can ride the Alpercin train for the win. Will anyone bother with going in the break? Caja Rural & Burgos have possibly just one last chance to show themselves - 2 man break!

Curious about the final 2K straight part.
That part can be graded with covers, grates, old surface, a little up and down, parked cars and where it can turn out that a perfect 2km 30 meter wide road is actually worse in terms of safety compared to a 2km straight road with few challenges, so it will be harder to sit in the front.
Think I'll just dive into it on GPS/street view before I set today's manager team...oops, I guess it's too late. But 8 mountain riders will probably do, especially if it is 2km very falsely flat :D

*edit*
Found it. Not that hairy.

Yep, double so big break then I thought - 4 men and best on GC is nearly 3 hours down. Now we wait for the intermediate sprint.

Edit - Question/topic for today - If Kuss has a puncture 5 km from the finish should the peloton stop and wait or just his team?

I'm devastated that I'm not within broadcasting signal to closely follow those explosive actions going on as you describe.
Well the good news is Alpecin are already, according to the official website, on the front and keeping up the speed so they'll be no dilly-dallying today. Infact they've already taken 30 seconds off the breaks lead, so the brakes might be applied.
Edit - and UAE are helping and the break has now lost 1 minute. This does not bode well for the break!
