To many time safety has been sacrificed for commercial interests and spectacle. Riders just want it balanced. They know it’s the public paying their wages, but we don’t have to ride down mountains at 100 kmh, do cobbles at 15 %, sprint for victory with some total nutcases for 3 weeks. Just balance and today they reacted to all those lousy finishes in front of a sponsor building or monument, those long days when you have to go 500 km after the race ends to the next region, etc.

What are you even talking about?? Paterberg and Koppenberg must not be used in De Ronde? And what is the sprint with nutcases thing? Just to make the list sound more imposing?

Actually the removed the Koppenberg out of RVV for several years after riders protest (and because the road quality was just too bad). It is back in, but the supporting cars need to take a de-tour....

Yeah, that isn't the point at all. And I don't think riders protested much. Jesper Skibby himself has said it was a ridiculous decision. He was just too tired (and the gears back then where too high) to keep going after having been in the break for a long time.

I'm all for doing what the riders want when it comes to safety, but if they keep pulling stunts like we've seen today in spain & benelux, they're going to end up overplaying their hand and *** things up for everyone.

Couldn't agree more and there need to be parameters as well as some subjective opinion calls..but a TTT where there is complete darkness.. come on I see the complexity of the event.. when DSM started conditions were one way and degenerate into something completely different.. organization knew it was wrong but suspension of the race and how to do a makeup or restart is not in the schedule.. and the nature of road races make neutrality in certain sections once the race is underway very difficult but not impossible.. TDF has seen protesters and trains and they had it neutral for a little while. But wet roads? I don't know what to do about that..That's going to be a really new twist if race organizations have to plan for rain days in the schedule and you can see the only real option is to remove the stage from the race results completely..

Just saying that they don't need extra drama with late starts and bad weather. Koppenberg, Angliru, are all you need. And yes being a sprinter is just dangerous (just look for groenewegen, cavendish, de lie crashes, or from a bit back steels, jalabert, nelissen ....) and they should provide the best finishes. Amazing how many times there is a much better straight line just a few km away but organisers just don't seem to care enough. That's why you saw that the riders just had it. No mas.

The worst post-race interview has to be that by Thomas, who was complaining about the speed at which the teams who were chasing the breakaway took the roundabouts. Doesn't get more insufferable than that.
Yeah it was bad, I guess when you're part of a winning organization you struggle to understand that for other teams a stage win or even keeping the jersey for one more day is the difference between a good and a bad GT.

Congratulations to Andreas Lorentz Kron for winning the stage.

As for the finale. There was likely an agreement before the race, for GC guys to not go for it on this stage. Due to poor safety standards. That is on why the peloton needed to be reminded. To honor the agreement.

The format used at the end of this stage is likely the format of the future in regards to sprint stages. Sprinters sprinting and GC riders soft pedaling the last couple of kilometers.

P.S. After such stage GC riders likely read the comments of such thread. Having nothing better to do as they are not injured. Likely smiling.
