Where's all the people by the way. Foreign start you often see massive crowds. This has all the UAE stage 2 ITT vibes.

Apart from cycling fans, doubt many more people know about the start (even more in the rest of the country). Publicity been bad and since the two biggest tv networks don't have the rights to show the Vuelta, they barely (if at all) talk about the event.

I live near Lousã so I caught up with some facebook post from the local municipality about parking restrictions to residents due to the start of stage 3 and all the reactions were negative about the start and having again to park their car somewhere else after some festivity a few weeks ago.

He’s never ridden for himself. I’m American, but not necessarily a fan of American riders, but McNulty is your typical late developing American rider. He’s never really had a chance to ride for himself since signing with UAE. He’s not likely going to compete for the podium, but I wouldn’t be shocked by it if he did.

Late developing is about the last thing I'd call McNulty. He was of mythical levels as a junior, on par with Adrien Costa, and contending in high level, one week stage races as a teenager / early 20s with the relative small program of Rally/UnitedHealthCare. Lack of opportunity and one too many flaws in his game, being that of inconsistency, is what I would point at for his ''failure'' as a GT GC threat.

I don’t expect him to win or realistically contend, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he finished high up on GC either is all I’m saying.
