Vuelta a España Vuelta a España 2024, stage 21: Madrid - Madrid, 24.6k (ITT)

I wonder what his sensations are in regards to this Vuelta. He is just about the only rider in the entire race who made this the major goal of the season, yet it wasn't too convincing if it was to be some sort of blueprint to start contending in the Tour de France as of 2025.

Yeah, he just did an interview and didn't sound too enthused. Not disappointed, and I think he is happy with how he has ridden since they left Andalucía. But I think the heat got to him there, and then he also made a silly mistake yesterday.

Also, I corrected my post from before, he would have been 4th without stage 9, and only a couple of second in front of Carapaz - there was a minute that somehow eluded me in my initial counting.

Finally Küng takes his GT stage win, well deserved.

Roglič now a 4th time Vuelta winner, record holder together with Heras. Crazy to think that a country with 2 million people like Slovenia can win all three Grand Tours in the same season.

Great defence from O'Connor to get the best Grand Tour result of his career, one that virtually no one expected when the race started.

Surprisingly good time trials from Baroncini and Schmid, Vacek solid too.

If you watched the Vuelta on Danish TV2, there were times where you could have thought Skjelmose was the only rider in the race. He did make up for it in the second half of the race and achieved a pretty good result, but I maintain he could have fought for stage wins in breakaways and still finished in the top 5-8, if he had just lost a little time on purpose, rather than complain about other teams not letting him go up the road.

But that would be quite counter-productive to his goal of trying to gain experience riding for GC.

If he hasn't progressed in two years, he can begin doing that.

Yeah, he roughly scores an 8 on the Fuglsang scale. Less likeable the more you hear him.

Skjelmose doesn't quite seem to have the tippy top climbing level day in, day out.
No, was well worth a try for him I suppose, still young etc. He's got fantastic attributes that can win loads of races in different terrains and they will probably justify trying again but hopefully they know when to give it up and don't make him ride GT's if it transpires he isn't going to win/podium them.
