Yeah, he roughly scores an 8 on the Fuglsang scale. Less likeable the more you hear him.
A very whatever rider which lacks top end talent in high mountains to stand a chance in TdF.

In a Vuelta and in a week Giro, it makes sense to target a top 5 here and there, but he's the perfect example of a rider who is much better off targetting hard one day races, one week stage races, stagehunt and ride GC in lesser fields in Giro/Vuelta. Doing what Fuglsang was trying to do in TdF for 5 years in a much more talented era will do him no good, he will get absolutely railed.

But that would be quite counter-productive to his goal of trying to gain experience riding for GC.

If he hasn't progressed in two years, he can begin doing that.

Not necessarily. The more proven GC riders O'Connor and Carapaz finished ahead of him, so it wouldn't have been completely impossible for him to have ended up in a similar situation, but with a stage win on his palmares as well.

My point was that he wanted to ride like he thinks a real GC rider does as he believes that will be how he can gain even better results later in his career.

I think that's his logic. I also think that he has been way too calculating.
