He followed the wrong wheel, and then that rider in front of him stopped and he had to make up many riders. And then he was ***.

This is just his level in bunch sprints this year, I don't see why you are surprised. It was the same at the Giro, he just had a high number of stages suited to him there. It was even worse at Paris-Nice. He isn't nearly as fast as he was two years or so ago.

He is getting worse results than in the Giro in a field that is orders of magnitude weaker. No, he shouldn't be expected to win, but he should be a lot closer than this.
