Anyone see what happened to Sagan? Looked like he was there, and then absolutely nowhere two seconds later.

very weird... why did so many stop on the top of that tiny hill?
Quite simple, they were fried after the hard pace and the attack of Boonen.

Only Sutton and Reynes had something left it seems.

Wiggins, Machado, Kash, Siutsou +13s

Sastre +20s

No Klöden yet.

Although JVdB finished 12th is a good sign.

They were, the train was Tony, Cav, Degenkolb all the way, hence Cav was visible so early.

+1 You could see from about 20km out that there was another HTC behind Cav but everyone was focused on him.

It was a bit like that uphill sprint in Tour de Suisse a few months back where Boonen goes too early, some bridge to him and sit up, then someone from well back keeps going (Bozic / Sutton) and momentum gets them the win

Prolly for Degenkolb...

And Tomke is getting in form, looking good for WC

matti too.

two guys we know can handle the distance which affects sprit greatly.

i missed the stage. cool to see tommeke is getting into shape.

him matti and freire can be really dangerous at this worlds. those 3 are pure born hard man that are fresher then most after 280k and do their best sprinting on tough slightly uphill sprints just like the worlds. cav better be careful.

Nah, that one was a real battle. Sagan/Freire/Bozic really went for it. Here all the strongmen came too late. Of whom, rather surprisingly, Kittel was the strongest. Definitely one to watch.

Oh, and now I remember, didn't LaFleur have a bet that he wouldn't reach the top-3 one single time? Ooops...

Kind of surprised on how Boonen, Benatti & Sagan literally "miscalculated" the effort before the flat part-they all were blown off before the sprint.....
this final just proved wrong some folks here saying that 250 mts @ 8% wouldn't hurt the top sprinters...

Did any gc leaders lose time. For example of 9 Leopard riders on mt this morining only 2 remain meaning 7 lost time .

So its possible that on other teams some big riders, maybe a Scarponi or a Menchov for example may have lost a few seconds.

Edit they probably dropped a few in the ttt come to think of it, but it still means about 3 lost time.
