There were 2 Skil riders with Kittel at the finish.

I guess more weren't needed, or the DS doesn't like him that much.

To tie it all back together, why did Poels and Taaramae attack so soon?

Taaramae probably knows he needs to break away to have a chance to win this stage.

Let's just drop the nationality talk, before we enter 1940s territory...

filthy mudblood :p

pretty sure they hoped to take a 20-25 sec lead on the finish. risky. did't pay off.

He was dropped in the cat2 climb with 60kms to go and his DS decided to leave him alone. Can't understand that decision when he's the rider giving visibility to the team in the race.

Seems he changed his mind later because Timmer and Veelers finished together with Kittel. He's their biggest and only star in this race so they should really keep him safe on stages like today. I guess even tommorow will be easier for him.

I didn't even know the meaning of a chump had to google it, just shows how much of an Asian I am. Just what I thought, with the way you choose riders to support you couldn't be full Aussie.

Cycling is one of those sports which crosses country lines just because you are Australian doesn´t mean you have to support Evans

Cheers! Heh, you still get the feeling he's not particularly happy about riding with French breakaway artists...
Is he committed to staying at AGR for another year?

Not sure to be honest, but I think he's generally happy in the team as he is a pretty big fish in a small pool.

This climb was steeper than what Gilbert dominates on. No pure power but rather a long grind.

Poels afterall struggled here and he managed in Jaen. And Jaen was last year already too steep for Gilbert.

I stick by my opinion that Gilbert would not have been able to match Rodriguez here or Scarponi or even his soon to be ex teammate.

el_pis will be along soon. :D

Maybe he just doesn't like any of the Aussie riders?

brad mcgee was cool. yep.

To be honest mainly I like very attacking riders (chav for example) GC riders (pretty much like all the riders going for gc at the vuelta, couldn't say the same regarding the tour) and some of the tough men (boonen). Sprinters and such aren't my cup of tea, and really the only rider who kinda fits into the mould from Aus. of the riders I like is cuddles, but his whining over the years made me dislike him.

I guess I am a bit biased towards liking dutch riders, but like I said I was raised to support the dutch I guess. I of course like other riders, but not many are aussie, because as you pointed out they simply don't appeal to me.

Fun fact: the etymological origin for "Aryan" is the same as the origin for "Iran" and in fact, some linguists group the Indo-Iranian language groups (one branch of Indo-European) together under the name "Aryan".

How many blonde, blue-eyed Iranians do you know?

Yep exactly, when I first heard the word Aryan I thought they were Indians. Then I was wondering why the Nazi's started calling themselves Aryans. They don't really look alike.

based on what took place today-If Nibali won't recover well from the crash- he'll lose "minutes" in the Angliru to J-Rod..........(which I don't mind since I like him a lot:D)

Matt Haymans OK, Sutton, Renshaw and one or two others but I must admit to not being a fan of Aussie riders.

J-Rod is is probably my fave rider at the moment, the guy is class.

just some guy said:
Have you heard him talk English - bloke sounds more Australian than most

Course I have. And I know he feels like an Australian and all, but that doesn't change the fact that he used to be riding for Germany.
