Well, it's pretty sure that Rodriguez will win and get 20 secs as a bonus for that, that means he would only need 3 secs more to take the red. So it's pretty pretty sure that he Chavanel will lose it.

Very good point - I forgot about the time bonus.

I do not know if the last 3 kms benefit so much only the likes of J. Rodriguez. Obviously he is a favorite, but this is not like in Valdepenas de Jaen. It is longer and there is a very demanding stretch of pavé that used to be a significant factor in previous stages in El Escorial.

I think the final 3 km can make more differences than the usual 10-15 secs in a wall.

Let´s see.

Will the crash from stage 7 have any effect on the leaders? I know Scarponi hurt his hand and the ticker said JRod and Nibali were also involved but I didn't see them down.

Scarponi actually crossed the finish line before either one of them. Dunno if it's bad news, or no news.

Ok, that was "maybe" stupid of me ^^. I meant Nibali of course. Not the other one. Gah, I feel so betrayed by my brain, I was thinking I wrote Nibali the whole time.

Really I was more after the type of rider than specific examples..

Come on Vuelta organizers, you don't need to resort to Eneco Tour-like profiles to make your stages seem more interesting... one km at 20%, I don't believe it. Looks like a great stage though.

Wasn't stupid, an honest mistake. And I knew exactly what you meant. But yet again, it wouldn't be a forum if someone didn't point it out and rub your face into something like that would it??? :D:D:D

to be a eneco tour stage you would need at least 40k of flat terrain after the last hill :p

@Ferminal - I'm not sure sure. On the official profile of the last 3 km, it looks like the climb starts at roughly 930 m altitude, ends at 1125, so 200 m over 1 km climb

The official profile is quite obviously wrong, and does not match the official description of the finish.

I dont think Purito will win this. Liqui might push it on the descent. They dont want J Rod to go into that final k undistrupted.

I think Katusha will mess it up and Poels will win.

That finish climb ---- like Macerata times 2.

Probably going to be the usual suspects, Purito, Poels, Basso, Scarponi

Going to be epic!

Not sure what you mean by 'times 2', but the final mur tomorrow is only done once. The loop around the finish town does not go twice over the same streets.

At about 800 m to go there are short ramps of about 23-26%, it is not a joke finish

EDIT: The last km may have about 11-13 % of average

This is the good one

Last two climbs are the firt section of two differents ways to climb Monte Abantos

If Unipublic was serious they have to categorized last 3 climbs as 3 category

(they do extrange things like put puerto de Ancares as 1 category, do you imaging Galibier as 1 Cat?)

I actually think Dan Martin and Nicolas Roche(National bias!!) will figure big time in the stage tomorrow, small chance of a win maybe. Martin said he was feeling great today and looking forward to this stage tomorrow. Though the finish profile looks perfect for purito..

+1 The stage has 1 x 1cat, 2x 2 cat, and 3x 3cat, including the last 3 uncategorized climbs. It would have to be discussed if the last would be a 2 cat, since it is almost 4 km and have stretches of pavé and a brutal last kilometer, but at least a 3 cat. Do they do that for avoiding complains on too many mountains in the Vuelta this year??

And surely, if Ancares is a 1cat, then only Angliru is an out of category climb.Ridiculous.

katusha will never let a breakaway take it.
that's why i love time bonuses, they make the race faster and every stage is relevant and interesting for the gc guys.

Taaramäe blogged that he will most certainly try to get into the break tomorrow :).

So could be interesting.

Any chance of Chavanel holding onto red tomorrow? I am not sure... how much time may he lose on such a finish?

i don't see him keeping the red jersey, Moreno and Rodriguez are to close, Chavanel might lose 30 sec to a minute tomorrow....
