So basically the the final 840m or so is 12.7% - a bit dissapointing considering it was thought to be 20% but it should besteep enough for some fun action. Hopefully we see some attacking racing.

It is more a mini-MTF than a VdJ, something out of the ordinary could happen given that it is lumpy before and the final 3.5km are uphill. If Rodriguez wants to win Katusha will have to be very strong but he will also have to get his timing right.

Correct. The problem is that people tend to mix the fact that there are short stretches at 23-26% with the last km average. However I did not see any official source making that mistake.

Anyway, people seem to focus too much in the last km. After going under the train bridge at more than 2 km to go the pavé starts and there is a km at 8-8,5 % in average. There is plenty of room for exploding the race, this is not like Valdepeñas de Jaén.

I hate SBS at the moment. We get this stage televised...only 2 hours late! They continual champion their coverages of live cycling but still continue to **** over all of us in the West.

Got up at 8:15 fully intending to go to El Escorial, check that 20% gradient by myself and see the stage finish, but I couldn't be arsed because no one was coming with me. So TV it is.

Wonder who's going to get exposed as being worst hurt in the crash yesterday.
My guess is Scarponi, from amongst the GC contenders. He hit with higher speed.

Are the points the same for mountain stages? i.e. 25 points for the first rider down to 1 for the 15th rider?

Yes. Just like most races not called the "Tour de France", the points jersey is about consistency and thus all stages are weighted equally. If a sprinter is particularly successful they can still win it (Cav last year, Greipel '09) but it's not always as clearly a sprinterfest, obviously that's helped by many of the sprinters clearing off after 2 weeks to go to the Worlds though.

I took people to the Olympic Test event.

One of them was so obnoixious about the whole thing I told him to **** off.

A week later an apologetic bottle of wine appeared in the post from Fortnum & Masons, so I consider it a happy ending.

We hadn't seen each other for a while - he being a lazy d.phil student wanted a cheap day out.

However, once he'd had to wait a whole hour to see the race, then had a quick walk round the teamcars in St James' he thought it was time to start making phone calls loudly talking about how rubbish it was.

I'll enjoy the wine, but I think I can do without him.
