It still will be good though. I also like these types of stages. Good fun. I am glad I am staying up to watch this stage.

looks like a another stage where everybody wants to get in the break. Including Chavanel!

Given the route, his skill set, and his willingness to domestique for people in Garmin, you'd need a pretty stupid coach to have him in risk of not going.

Chavanel with Quickstep should just set a false tempo for the rest of the day. With the people in the break they won't threaten his gc lead and the peloton may lose interest in contesting the finale.

If there remains only 2 up the road Moncoutié must be ecstatic - he can pick up 6 GPM points without having to break sweat.

Interesting that Rodriguez has done a recon of this stage. He thinks some really big time gaps could open.


He realises the importance of the stage and has the advantage of having checked it out before the race started. “This is one of the very few stages that I went to reconnoitre because I knew all the others,” he explained. “I can tell you this uphill finish can create more differences than a mountain stage with a few climbs.”
